Teen Services Librarian – Greenwood Branch
Regular, FLSA non‑exempt, part‑time (64 hours per two‑week pay period)
Salary Range: $44.92–$54.46 per hour
Schedule:
Week 1:
Wed 11 am‑8 pm, Thu 11 am‑8 pm, Sat 9 am‑6 pm, Sun 9 am‑6 pm;
Fri OFF, Mon OFF, Tues OFF. Week 2:
Wed 9 am‑6 pm, Thu 11 am‑8 pm, Mon 9 am‑6 pm, Tues 9 am‑6 pm;
Sat OFF, Sun OFF.
This position is open to the public and to Seattle Public Library employees.
Job Responsibilities- Provide culturally competent customer service, reference services, reader’s advisory, program development, community engagement, teamwork, and leadership.
- Identify community needs; develop, implement, and evaluate relevant programming and services.
- Assist all patrons, especially teens and young adults, in finding resources and information.
- Design, deliver, and assess programs using evidence‑based and data‑driven practices.
- Lead staff, volunteers, and community partners in service delivery and project activities.
- Manage operational aspects of library facilities, equipment, and programming, serving as a staff lead under the Regional Manager.
- Plan, coordinate, and evaluate projects, including budgeting, resource allocation, marketing, and outcome assessment.
- At least one year of experience in information services to the public.
- At least one year of experience developing, planning, and evaluating programmatic or outreach services for teens, using community and youth voices.
- Minimum one year of customer‑service experience in person, online, or telephone, with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to intellectual freedom as defined by the ALA Bill of Rights.
- Strong support for the City of Seattle’s Race and Social Justice Initiative and equity in service delivery.
- Experience in project management, including outcome‑based evaluation and working on committees or teams.
- Excellent communication skills, able to engage staff and library users from diverse backgrounds.
- Commitment to continuous learning and development of a racial equity practice.
- Resilience and professionalism under challenging conditions, maintaining the Library’s Community Use Agreement.
- Leadership to influence positive change, seek industry best practices, and communicate the Library’s mission.
- Working knowledge of PCs, library applications, online research, and social media; familiarity with Horizon or similar library automation preferred.
- Flexibility, multitasking ability, and adaptability to a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
- Required education: MLS or MLIS from an ALA‑accredited library school and Washington State Librarian Certification.
- Experience working with unhoused young adults and teens up to age 26.
