Under the direction of the principal, this position plans and delivers instructional programs in band, strings, and guitar that support students’ musical, intellectual, social, and emotional development. The teacher creates a safe and inclusive learning environment, monitors student progress, develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet all students’ needs, and communicates regularly with parents, staff, and the school community.
The teacher is expected to be available outside instructional hours when required.
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate subject matter endorsement.
- Commitment to building relationships with students of all backgrounds and learning needs.
- Ability to create a safe and inclusive classroom environment.
- Strong communication skills and professional judgment.
- Experience with technology integration in planning, instruction, and assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues in achieving school-wide goals.
- Recent high school teaching experience.
- Extensive knowledge of instrumental music education.
- Experience leading school band.
- Center instruction on high expectations for student achievement by providing clear learning goals.
- Demonstrate value and respect for all students, staff, and families, including typically underserved students.
- Use effective teaching practices that allow students to interact with new knowledge, practice, deepen understanding, and engage in cognitively complex tasks.
- Use questioning, probing, noticing engagement, and re‑engagement strategies.
- Help students use academic vocabulary and evaluate lesson effectiveness.
- Recognize individual learning needs and develop strategies using effective scaffolding.
- Provide clear focus on content and curriculum using approved resources and educational technology.
- Foster a safe, positive learning environment by creating a welcoming classroom space, organizing layout, and establishing rules.
- Manage classroom behavior with transparency, consistent consequences, and respect.
- Use multiple data elements to track progress and modify instruction.
- Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community.
- Participate in professional practices, mentorship, and district initiatives.
- Encourage independent thinking, problem‑solving, and creative expression.
- Maintain standards of behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment.
- Evaluate academic and social growth, prepare reports, and maintain records.
- Requisition instructional materials and maintain inventory records.
- Supervise students during out‑of‑classroom activities.
- Maintain professional competence through district and self‑selected growth activities.
- Administer or monitor standardized tests.
- Participate in curriculum development and district-level programs.
- Participate in IEP and 504 meetings as necessary.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Light work requiring up to 20 lb of force occasionally and 10 lb of force frequently. Vocal communication required. Hearing and visual acuity required. Reasonable accommodations may be made.

Enrolled in Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) plan. - Sick leave: 12 days (prorated for FTE) for regular employees; substitute employees receive sick leave per RCW 49.46.210.
- Paid time off: annual and/or vacation leave; varies by position and work year.
- Paid holidays: 10‑13 per year depending on position and work year.
- Employees may be eligible for VEBA with sick leave conversion.
