The Opportunity

We are seeking a creative, knowledgeable, and student-centered Art Portfolio Admissions Counselor to support students applying to top art and design schools. This role combines expert guidance on college admissions with specialized mentorship in portfolio development. The ideal candidate has a background in fine arts or design, experience guiding students through competitive application processes, and a passion for helping young artists showcase their talent effectively.

What

You’ll Do
  • Provide strategic college admissions counseling to students applying to top art and design programs (e.g., RISD, Parsons, Pratt, SAIC, Cal Arts, UCLA).
  • Guide students in developing a cohesive, competitive portfolio that meets each school’s specific requirements.
  • Offer detailed critique and mentorship on student artwork across a range of media (e.g., drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, photography, animation).
  • Support students in crafting compelling artist statements, resumes, and visual submissions (e.g., Slide Room).
  • Help students research and select programs that align with their creative goals and academic aspirations.
  • Advise on summer programs, art competitions, and extracurricular activities that strengthen student profiles.
  • Coordinate with Path Ivy admissions counselors to align portfolio preparation with the overall college application strategy.
  • Conduct virtual meetings with students and families to track progress, build rapport, and offer consistent support.
  • Lead occasional workshops or webinars on portfolio development and applying to creative colleges.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Design, or a related creative discipline from a competitive school.
  • Experience supporting students through portfolio-based admissions processes.
  • Familiarity with application requirements and portfolio platforms used by leading art and design schools.
  • Strong mentorship skills and the ability to give constructive, inspiring feedback.
  • Comfortable working with high school students and families in a virtual setting.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • MFA or advanced degree in a creative field.
  • Alumni or admissions experience at a top art/design college.
  • Proven track record of students admitted to competitive creative programs.
  • Knowledge of diverse artistic practices, including digital media, animation, video, or fashion design.
  • Experience conducting group workshops or public presentations.

  • Learn Path Ivy’s counseling model and portfolio development framework.
  • Begin assessing students’ existing portfolios and providing strategic guidance.
  • Assist students in planning and executing new work for upcoming deadlines.
  • Co‑lead or support a portfolio prep workshop or admissions Q&A.
First 6 Months
  • Guide multiple students through complete portfolio and college application cycles.
  • Provide tailored support for artist statements, supplemental essays, and interviews.
  • Receive strong feedback from students and families.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of Path Ivy’s portfolio support services.
First 12 Months
  • Build a track record of student success at top art and design institutions.
  • Share best practices and mentor new counselors focused on creative admissions.
  • Help expand Path Ivy’s creative admissions offerings through new programs or resources.
