Position: Student Minister at Seattle University On-Campus Employment

University Ministry seeks to provide a professional opportunity that is transformational and growth oriented. Student Ministers will be empowered to integrate peer ministry within the student experience at Seattle University. Student Ministers will have the opportunity to explore several facets of ministry including retreat development and implementation, faith-based community organizing, advocacy and education, pastoral care, rituals and liturgies, music ministry, and interfaith ministry.

Student Ministers will focus on areas of personal interest and collaborate with the University Ministry team to plan and implement programming for SU students. Student Ministers are expected to be active in the Seattle University community and deeply engage with their peers. This role will rely on heavy collaboration between other Student Ministers, the University Ministry team, as well as their peers on campus.

This is an opportunity to create programming that you believe will be what our Seattle University campus needs. Throughout the year, Student Ministers will engage in intentional ministerial formation, in community with other University Ministry Student Staff.

Student Ministers are paid a stipend of $8,400 per academic year (September 1 to July
1). Students are paid a portion of their stipend at the beginning of fall, winter, and spring quarters. 3 Student Ministers will be hired. Position length is three academic quarters:
September-June, with the opportunity to re-apply for subsequent years.

Job Responsibilities:

Candidates must be able to explain and/or demonstrate that they possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely perform the responsibilities outlined, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Attend and co-facilitate “Roots and Routes” Early Bird Immersion for incoming students in Mid-September
  • Promote and foster spiritual growth and exploration for the campus community in partnership with the University Ministry team and fellow Student Ministers
  • Actively learn about current students’ spiritual needs and interests and create opportunities with them for further engagement
  • Actively participate in monthly Student Staff ministerial formation meetings
  • Participate in bi-monthly individual supervision meetings and facilitate Student Minister group collaboration meetings
Plan and Implement
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and facilitating University Ministry events and retreats
  • Be an active part of building a community of belonging and inclusion, where all feel welcomed and known
  • Provide weekly front office hospitality and support, when needed
Evaluate/Reflect
  • Explore personal values, strengths, growing edges
  • Develop leadership and ministerial skills, using your personal, creative interests
  • Evaluate programming in partnership with Campus Ministers
Required Qualifications:

Is passionate about developing and implementing a vision for a campus culture grounded in faith, justice, and community.

Has an appreciation of and respect for diverse expressions of faith, spirituality, and/or philosophical traditions.

Is self‑motivated, dependable, and takes initiative on relationship building, projects, and communication.

Relationship‑building skills – is approachable, has the ability to include others and facilitate dialogue with peers, fosters belonging and collaboration.

Organizational and basic project management skills – has the ability to track tasks, problem solve, ask for assistance, and follow through on responsibilities.

Communication skills – has the ability and willingness to communicate with clarity and respect to multiple audiences, including students, staff, faculty, and community partners.

Good clerical skills – written communication, data entry, scheduling, and record‑keeping, and proficiency with Word, Canva, and Excel.

Measures of success:

Widen and deepen outreach to the broader campus community through development, implementation, and evaluation of programming.

Further collaboration on specific ministries, projects and team goals

Articulate leadership skills and abilities, strengths, and growing edges through goal setting and self‑reflection
