26-27 USFWS BFJ Nisqually Environmental Education Coordinator
This is an Ameri Corps/Washington Service Corps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service administers the system of national wildlife refuges. We aim to develop an ethic of stewardship by providing access to federal land that is preserved for conservation. Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge is an oasis of wilderness in the South Puget Sound.
It was created through a grassroots citizen movement. Thousands of students, teachers, and caregivers visit the refuge every year. Our environmental education programs give youth the chance to experience a thriving ecosystem. The member will coordinate and deliver educational programming at the refuge. We expect to begin rolling review of applications and interviews in late May. Monthly stipend amount: $3,157.
Duties
The Environmental Education Coordinator helps USFWS achieve our goal of inspiring a stewardship ethic by connecting young people to their environment. They will conduct school visit presentations; plan and deliver teacher workshops; recruit, train, and coordinate program volunteers; review and adapt activities and materials for different ages and depending on evaluations; plan and staff special events; collaborate with partners to provide targeted programming to underserved populations.
