Part‑Time Faculty Pool – Sociology Instructor

The Seattle Colleges District is the largest and most diverse community college district in Washington, consisting of North Seattle College, Seattle Central College, and South Seattle College along with five specialty training centers. Faculty in this pool will support the district’s mission of equity, diversity and inclusion and contribute to an open‑access learning environment.
Position SummaryThe role involves teaching part‑time in a wide range of political science courses, including but not limited to Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to American Culture, Race and Ethnic Relations, Human Sexuality, Social Psychology, and Sex Roles and Society. Candidates must be able to teach in in‑class, hybrid, online and evening or weekend formats, as required by program needs.
Successful applicants will be invited to interview at one of the district colleges and will be assigned teaching duties based on their background, schedule and course availability. The position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with AFT‑Seattle and offers a salary range of $7,110.33‑$10,649.33.
What you will be working on- Provide high‑quality instruction using effective teaching strategies that support diverse student populations and promote student learning.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive, timely feedback to support academic success.
- Ensure course materials are accessible to students in compliance with digital accessibility standards.
- Demonstrate a commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
- Utilize appropriate educational technologies and communication tools to support teaching, learning and administrative responsibilities.
- Uphold the mission and values of Seattle Colleges by supporting student achievement and contributing to a positive learning environment.
- Maintain and submit required documentation such as course information, academic credentials and professional references as part of the application and employment process.
- Demonstrated ability and commitment to teach courses such as Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to American Culture, Race and Ethnic Relations, Human Sexuality, Social Psychology, or Sex Roles and Society.
- Master’s Degree or PhD in the field or a related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent workforce experience.
- Willingness to teach in multiple modes and times, including online, hybrid, evenings and weekends.
- A demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse college community that serves students from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic and academic backgrounds.
- Innovative teaching methods, including the use of technology and collaborative learning.
- The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, staff and students in a professional setting.
- An understanding of the goals and role of the community college.
- Attached resume outlining educational and teaching experience.
- Philosophy of teaching statement (no more than one page).
- Unofficial graduate transcripts.
- List of courses taught by college and year/quarter in Word or Excel.
- Cover letter addressing how you meet the duties, responsibilities and requirements of the position.
- Contact information for three professional references.
