Job Summary

Under general supervision, the coach cooperates with the Varsity Head Coach to lead the JVC Boys Tennis team. The season begins Monday, August 24 and concludes late October. Practices are held approximately three to four times per week from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 or 5:30 as facility space allows.

Responsibilities
  • Teach appropriate fundamentals, techniques, and skills.
  • Ensure health and safety of athletes.
  • In cooperation with the Varsity Head Coach, articulate a clear coaching philosophy.
  • Apply developmentally appropriate and age-appropriate methods to coaching student-athletes.
  • Emphasize sportsmanship and leadership among athletes.
  • Communicate clearly to players, parents, administrators, and staff.
  • Motivate athletes positively and promote teamwork.
  • Attend all meetings and training as required by the league and/or Athletic Director.
  • Be familiar with and comply with all school policies and regulations.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field from a four‑year college or university preferred.
  • Demonstrated competence and experience in coaching tennis required.
  • Recent successful coaching experience in an upper‑school environment preferred.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR card.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong tennis playing ability.
  • Deep knowledge of the intricacies of the game of tennis.
  • Understanding of developmental needs of upper‑school aged students.
  • Efficient, well‑organized, and able to handle multiple duties simultaneously.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet student and program needs.
  • Professional manner, discretion, and appearance.
  • Sense of humor, energy, enthusiasm, and ability to hold students and oneself to high expectations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong work ethics.
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Proficient in appropriate computer skills and office equipment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods; to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, walk, and talk.
  • Awareness of proper body mechanics to prevent injury.
  • Ability to use hands and operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outside in any weather.
  • Some local travel may be required.
Compensation
  • Salary stipend ranges from $4,000 to $5,000 based on experience.
  • Stipend is paid in two installments on the last workday of each month of September and October.
