Summary

The Museum Educator supports the mission of The Boeing Academy for STEM Learning (BASL) at The Museum of Flight by delivering high quality, innovative and inspiring informal educational programs to diverse audiences both within the Museum campus and at offsite locations. With a focus on aviation, flight, and STEM related programs, Museum Educators serve a wide variety of audiences, learners, and locations including onsite programs, school groups, outreach to community groups, out of school-time programs and other immersive experiences.

In addition to facilitating and delivering educational programs, the Museum Educator may work with chaperones and volunteers as a point of contact and provide direction.

  • Facilitate the Museum's onsite and offsite educational programs with particular attention to learner engagement, adapting to meet learner needs, and delivering on curriculum learning objectives.
  • Provide safe, fun, and educational experiences and environments for participants.
  • Assist in the research, design, and implementation of educational program components, training, and resource materials.
  • Support and monitor program assessment, evaluation, enhancement, and quality control including inventory, and maintaining and cleaning supplies and other resources.
  • Represent BASL, the Museum, and educational program activities and initiatives with external stakeholders, community-based organizations, and other education and museum partners.
  • Provide support to other BASL programs and colleagues in the delivery and promotion of Museum educational offerings, as assigned.
  • May support Education staff training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Education & Experience
    • A minimum of two (2) years college experience in education, science, or museum related field of study; bachelor's degree is preferred. Will accept related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • A minimum of two (2) years work experience within a youth educational setting.
    • Experience working with youth of all ages highly preferred.
    Knowledge
    • General knowledge of education standards and practices in teaching and learning that actively engages learners.
    • Aviation, aerospace, and/or STEM related knowledge, a plus.
    Skills
    • Demonstrated facilitation skills that engage and inform audiences of all ages, backgrounds, and education levels.
    • Displays good customer service skills and follow-through.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Windows based computer environment including Microsoft Office suite.
    • Possesses good communication skills through verbal, non-verbal, and written communication methods.
    Abilities
    • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
    • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups, including staff, students, teachers, parents, and volunteers.
    • Willingness and ability to learn aviation concepts and history, as well as space and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) content.
    • Willingness and ability to learn technology-based education programs.
    • Innovative in practice, remains open to new ideas and is able and willing to adjust technique as needed.
    License & Certification
    • Must have a current driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
    • First Aid, CPR/AED certification, a plus
    Work Environment

    • Schedule is set by the supervisor within a primary schedule upon hire, however, requires flexibility including weekends, holidays, and evenings based on Museum needs.
    • Occasional to frequent local travel is expected for this position.
    • Onsite attendance is essential to perform some of the duties of this position.
    • May be required to drive a utility van to offsite teaching locations.
