The job of ECEAP assistant teacher is to assist the lead teacher in providing quality, comprehensive child development services to preschool children and their families and to encourage parental involvement in educational planning, goal setting, and center activities.

This position reports to the director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Birth-Grade 12 and the lead ECEAP teacher.

This position is eight hours per day, Monday–Friday following the typical school calendar. The position is housed in Summit Valley School District.

Responsibilities
  • Acts as a support and resource person for families, assisting the teacher in managing specific needs with families, advocating for parents, and encouraging parent involvement.
  • Attends meetings and workshops (e.g., in-service, staffing, training, parent meetings) to convey and gather information required to perform functions and maintain professional knowledge.
  • Maintains classroom equipment, supplies, student records (instructional materials, meal counts, attendance, fire safety checklist) ensuring availability of items, reliable information, and a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Monitors students in various educational settings (classroom, playground, field trips, nap times) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Provides set-up and service of meals and snacks to meet nutritional needs of students.
  • Performs related duties as assigned. Related duties may not be specifically listed but are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's classification of work.

Working Environment

The position requires significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 15% sitting, 35% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some hazardous conditions.

Experience

Job-related experience is desired.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent. The equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in Early Childhood or a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential awarded by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition preferred.

Continuing Education/Training
  • Must complete mandatory training provided by NEWESD 101.
  • Complete a minimum of 15 hours of in-service professional development per calendar year, such as STARS or other job-related workshops, classes, or job-embedded professional learning.
Certificates & Licenses
  • Maintain a current pediatric CPR/first aid certificate (at employee’s expense).
  • Maintain a current Washington State Department of Health Food Worker Card (at employee’s expense).
  • Valid driver's license and required auto insurance.
  • Reliable personal transportation.
Clearances
  • Provide proof of Mantoux Tuberculosis (TB) testing, treatment or immunity pursuant to WAC (3).
  • Provide proof of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunization or proof of immunity in accordance RCW .
  • Washington State Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) portable background check clearance (no cost).
  • WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance (if needed at employee's expense).
