Mathematics Associate Lecturer Position
Highline College is a comprehensive community college providing certificates, associate's and bachelor's degrees in high-quality academic transfer pathways, workforce training, and Adult Basic Education. Highline College (HC) is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time faculty Associate Lecturer position in Mathematics.
This position is also eligible for a legislature funded High-Demand stipend issued on a quarterly basis. Currently, the stipend amount is approximately $2,760 per quarter. Three quarter total of $8,280.
This position is expected to begin in September 2026.
Essential TasksProfessional Responsibilities

- Teaching:
Teach a wide variety of courses from pre-college mathematics through college-level mathematics, including statistics. In addition, these courses are offered in various modalities (face-to-face, Hybrid, or online asynchronous). Create a welcoming and supportive learning environment and use evidence-based practices to improve the success of diverse students; foster active, inclusive, and culturally relevant learning environments and curricula that welcome and engage all students, incorporating instructional technologies, as appropriate, to improve student attainment.
Engage in self-reflective practice. - As a part of the contract, the successful candidate will teach a 40 quarter-credit load (typically two, five-credit courses in fall quarter and three, five-credit courses in winter and spring quarters.) The successful candidate will gain practical two-year college experience by teaching a reduced load while receiving support and guidance from the Mathematics Department faculty. Associate Lecturers participate in departmental and College initiatives and are mentored in effective teaching strategies, student learning preferences, classroom management techniques, and student advising.
- Advising/ Coaching/ Mentoring:
Work with students outside of class to help them choose courses and get connected with campus and community resources. Participate in professional learning opportunities focused on culturally responsive advising and establishing relationships with students; - Collaborate with colleagues/participate in shared governance:
In collaboration with colleagues, engage in continuous improvement through college-wide assessment processes. Participate in department, division, and other College activities, including College governance. Establish and maintain respectful, ethical, and professional relationships with students and colleagues; - Professional development/ ongoing professional learning:
Engage in ongoing professional learning. This includes remaining current in your discipline and evidence-based practices for culturally response, inclusive, and anti-racist pedagogies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A recent (within 2 years) master's degree (MA or MS) in mathematics from an institution with regional accreditation or its international equivalent; AND
- Ability to communicate in English, orally and in writing; AND
- Demonstrated interest in teaching mathematics in the first two years of college. Pending degrees must be completed by September 2026 and verified by a letter from the granting institution.

Qualifications:
- Undergraduate teaching experience and/or experience as a graduate teaching assistant;
- Demonstrated experience working in multicultural/diverse environments, particularly those who are under-represented in higher education or STEM fields;
- Knowledge of research on teaching, learning or assessment in mathematics;
- Awareness of existing gaps in achievement in diverse student populations and a commitment to developing innovative classroom practices to bridge these gaps.
The Math Department at Highline College consists of 11 tenured faculty members and offers a range of courses from pre-college through Differential Equations. During the school year the department offered 30 sections of Developmental Mathematics courses, 28 sections of General Education Mathematics (GEM) courses, 36 sections of Statistics and 71 sections of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses. We offer about 48 sections of mathematics classes each quarter, making us one of the largest departments on campus.
