Position: '26-'27 Part Time Faculty Pool- Adult Basic Education (South Seattle College)

Opportunity Description

Seattle Colleges is seeking a part‑time faculty member for the Transitional Studies Department. The position will involve teaching students in the High School 21+, GED, and College Prep Programs. The role is supervised by the Dean of Transitional Studies and will involve teaching in a variety of formats (in‑class, hybrid, online) and at varied class times.

About the College and Department

Seattle Colleges is a district of three community colleges that serves a diverse student population. The Transitional Studies Department offers programs for adult learners, including High School 21+, GED, and College Prep courses.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Dean of Transitional Studies, the faculty member will teach students from a wide variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Teaching assignments will be based on background, scheduling, and available courses. The position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with AFT‑Seattle.

Salary and Workload

Salary range for part‑time faculty: $7,703 – $11,537.33 per 5‑credit single‑class workload per quarter. Target start rate of pay: $7,703 – $8,912 per 5‑credit single‑class workload per quarter. Workloads may increase to up to 10 credits per quarter.

  • Provide high‑quality instruction using effective teaching strategies that support diverse student populations and promote learning
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive, timely feedback to support academic success

  • Demonstrate a commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment
  • Utilize appropriate educational technologies and communication tools to support teaching, learning, and administrative responsibilities
  • Uphold the mission and values of Seattle Colleges by supporting student achievement and contributing to a positive learning environment
  • Maintain and submit required documentation such as course information, academic credentials, and professional references
Qualifications
  • Master's degree or PhD in the field or related field from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to teaching multiple levels on the topic of study
  • Understanding of the goals and role of the community college
  • A commitment to working within a diverse college community that serves students from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic and academic backgrounds
  • Innovative teaching methods, including use of technology and collaborative learning
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others in a professional setting

Office Setting

Work is primarily performed in office settings with frequent interruptions and typical office noise.
