UPrep is seeking a talented, engaging, and compassionate Middle School Soccer Coach. Under general supervision, lead one of the multiple Middle School boys’ soccer teams. Season begins September 2nd and concludes October 31st. Practices held twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm) and all matches are held between 2:30 pm – 6:00 pm.
Specific Responsibilities- Discuss game strategy and technique with Varsity/D1 coaching staff
- Conduct player evaluations during tryouts and mid-season review
- Manage player development based on program core competencies
- Work with Asst. Athletic Dir. and Middle School coaching staff to create practice plans that are skill appropriate
- Teach appropriate fundamentals, techniques and skills
- Be responsible for the health and safety of the athletes
- In cooperation with Varsity Head Coach, articulate a well-defined and understandable coaching philosophy
- Apply developmentally appropriate and age appropriate methods to coaching student‑athletes
- Emphasize sportsmanship and leadership among athletes
- Communicate clearly to players, parents, administrators and staff
- Motivate athletes positively and promote teamwork
- Direct off-court curriculum
- Attend all meetings and trainings as required by the league and/or Athletic Director
- Be familiar with and comply with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High School diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field from a four‑year college or university preferred
- Demonstrated competence and experience in coaching soccer required
- Recent successful coaching experience in a Middle School environment preferred
- Must possess or be willing to obtain valid First Aid/CPR card
- Be a strong, successful soccer player
- Have deep knowledge of the intricacies of the game of soccer
- Understand the developmental needs of middle school-aged students
- Be efficient, well organized, and able to handle a variety of duties simultaneously
- Be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the students and program
- Maintain a professional manner, discretion, and appearance
- Have a sense of humor, energy and enthusiasm and hold students and oneself to high expectations
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Have excellent customer service skills and a strong work ethic
- Work with students from diverse backgrounds
- Communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
- Communicate well with students and their parents
- Maintain confidential information
- Be proficient in appropriate computer skills and office equipment
- Be able to stand for long periods
- Be aware of proper body mechanics to prevent injury
- Be able to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, walk, and talk
- Use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
- Be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Work outside in any weather
