* Position Summary:
Undergraduate Academic Advisors guide students through educational planning and registration processes; assist students in resolving challenges to educational progress; and connect students to information, opportunities, and resources at the University. Academic Advisors advise a caseload of students assigned by academic program, interacting with students individually in scheduled and drop-in appointments, in small groups, online, and through occasional events and programs. Undergraduate Academic Advisors collaborate with campus partners, faculty, and academic departments to ensure timely and accurate information in support of student success.
This position works as part of an advising center team co-located in a specific school or college and reporting to the University Advising office. Academic Advisors educate the whole student through holistic and proactive advising services.
Academic Advising – 70% of role
* Engages students through intentional processes of educational and career planning, based on thoughtful discernment of goals and carried out through regular review and revision. The processes may include exploring/declaring/changing/adding majors, minors, and/or career paths and developing course and degree plans that incorporate co-curricular activities.
* Helps students understand degree requirements, assists them with appropriate course selection and planning during quarterly registration periods; guides students to reflect on their progress and reviews final degree requirements.
* Attends to the various planning needs of individual students including but not limited to international students, student athletes, military-connected students, First Generation students, and prospective students who are considering enrollment at Seattle University.
* Assists students in their academic and personal adjustment to Seattle University and with issues that could affect their educational progress. This assistance may include outreach to students who are struggling academically, responding to early warning processes and referrals to students in need of support, and arranging academic and personal interventions as appropriate.
* Guides students through problem-solving on a wide variety of concerns, ranging from registration to personal and life issues, and refers them to resources for academic development and personal support.
* Informs students about available resources and options for university engagement; collaborates with relevant offices and promotes participation in such co-curricular activities as studying abroad, community engagement, leadership development, research, and internships.
* Provides timely and accurate responses to student inquiries via email or text and utilizing CRM (customer relationship management) software.
* Maintains accurate records of advising conversations and tracks student progress through data collection and analysis in CRM software.
