Position Summary
Sea Mar Community Health Centers is hiring a full‑time Child Development Center Teacher for its Seattle, WA location. The teacher will plan and implement developmentally appropriate programming, create lesson plans, maintain a safe learning environment, and collaborate with families and staff.
Responsibilities- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate programming and weekly lesson plans based on children’s needs and interests.
- Develop an anti‑bias, culturally relevant curriculum and set up the environment to stimulate curiosity.
- Maintain classroom discipline and model sound teaching practices.
- Ensure a safe, clean and pleasant environment and supervise children’s physical care, safety and well‑being.
- Participate in staff meetings, Sea Mar sponsored events and the Intergenerational Program with Home Care Residents.
- Communicate with parents about their children’s progress and general child development information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- AA required; CDA or equivalent degree in Early Childhood Education.
- At least two years of child‑care experience in a child‑care setting.
- Ability to instruct children from diverse racial and economic backgrounds.
- Strong knowledge of child development and ability to apply it through planning.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding Early Childhood Education journals and reports.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
- Reasoning ability to apply common sense in carrying out detailed written and/or oral instructions.
- 30 hours initial STARS training within first six months.
- HIV and Child Abuse & Neglect training, annual TB test, and BLS CPR within 90 days of hire. Must keep BLS CPR current.
- Current Food Handlers Permit.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or moving objects or children of more than 10 pounds. Requires frequent sitting, climbing or balancing. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
