Program Specialist 2

Under general supervision of the Director of Student Support, the Program Specialist 2 will serve as the first point of contact for students accessing emergency aid and resources available in the benefits hub. This position will focus on coordinating emergency aid for students including Supporting College Students Experiencing Homelessness Grant, Student Emergency Assistance Grant, United Way of King County funds and supervising Benefits Hub work study students and volunteers.

Primary responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide resource navigation for students to connect them with campus and community supports
  • Assist students in completing FASFA/WASFA, public benefits and housing applications
  • Effectively manage weekly schedule to accommodate student appointments, data entry, and other service tasks
  • Purchase, inventory and restock food, hygiene and clothing items for the Benefits Hub
  • Supervise Benefits Hub student workers and volunteers
  • Review emergency aid applications and meet with application review committee to determine scores
  • Coordinate emergency aid awards, email approval and denial correspondence to students
  • Track Emergency Aid student information, expenditures, and supports on excel spreadsheets
  • Provide ongoing case management for special populations of students including foster youth
  • Collaborate with other college departments including Student Life, Financial Aid, Workforce Education, and Advising, to create new initiatives and improve access for students to critical services and supports including funding.
  • Participate in regional and statewide trainings and conferences for professional development and student support collaborations with other WA community and technical colleges.

NOTE:

This position is currently funded through June 30, 2027, with continuation expected pending approved grant funding.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education/experience

Knowledge Of:

  • Microsoft Office applications such as SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Outlook, and Word programs
  • ctcLink, People Soft, Oracle or other HCM programs
  • Circumstances and barriers encountered by historically underrepresented minorities
  • Community-based organizations and other regional social service programs and entities
  • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the application of it in student services
  • Data and resources focusing on retention, persistence, and completion of studies and how these relate to basic needs insecurity
  • Trauma-informed approaches to coaching and case management
  • College processes, services and resources

Skill In:

  • Effective customer/student service through active listening and clear written and oral intercultural communication
  • Delivering effective presentations for a diverse audience in a multicultural environment
  • Fostering a climate of belonging through awareness and responsiveness
  • Time management, organization, and ability to meet competing deadlines/priorities
  • Entering and/or retrieving data accurately in computerized record keeping systems
  • Handling difficult and sensitive situations, using sound independent judgment within college & legal guidelines
  • Writing/editing/proofreading clear and concise materials resulting in effective oral and written communication with individuals inside and/or outside of the College
  • Establishing/maintaining effective working relationships at all organizational levels
  • Working with a diverse group of students, staff, and the public in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner
  • Using online information management systems and platforms; for example, Canvas, or any governmental or non-profit-sector database.
