26-'27 Part Time Faculty Pool- Culinary and Pastry Arts (South Seattle College

Position Summary

We are looking for a part‑time culinary arts/pastry instructor to join the South Seattle College Culinary and Pastry Arts program. The role focuses on teaching, curriculum development, and student support within an equity‑focused, open‑access college. You will work closely with instructors, students, and the Dean.

The salary range for part‑time faculty is $7,703 – $11,537.33 (P1: A1–E7). Credits for this course may vary, and the pay range will be adjusted accordingly.

• Organize practical and technical instruction and lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology related to culinary and pastry products.
• Plan and direct student work in various settings to demonstrate competencies outlined in the curriculum.
• Measure and assess course outcomes, program outcomes, and South Seattle College Student Learning Outcomes as listed on the official course outlines of record.
• Work with full‑time faculty on grading, examinations, and lab competencies in a timely manner.
• Comply with and enforce sanitation principles and policies as defined by current state health department codes.
• Maintain program policies and standards concerning attendance, dress code, and personal appearance.
• Instruct students to develop their culinary voice and to apply techniques and concepts as required by the curriculum.
• Conduct in‑classroom demonstrations and hands‑on labs learning the fundamentals of culinary and baking arts.
• Deliver clear, concise, and organized lectures.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.
• Attend meetings, faculty orientation, and other required sessions.

• Prior experience in culinary arts and pastry/baking.
• Minimum of three years of experience in the field or trade.
• Education and/or training in culinary arts or teaching in the field.
• King County Food Handlers Card required.
• Preferred MAST Card.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation.
• Ability to work well with a diverse student community.
• Ability to collaborate with faculty and administrators.
• Knowledge of the theory and hands‑on basics and intermediate techniques of culinary arts, cooking, pastry, and baking.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a regular basis. The employer will not sponsor applicants for work visas. Seattle Colleges is unable to extend post‑completion optional practical training (OPT) to F‑1 students who receive STEM degrees.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT‑Seattle.

• Ability to operate office equipment, receive and interpret data, and prepare various materials.
• Ability to exchange information with supervisors, co‑workers, and students.
• Ability to provide one‑to‑one support, present to small groups, and work at a computer with repetitive hand motion.
• Work is performed primarily in kitchen lab settings with frequent interruptions and ambient noise typical of a restaurant kitchen.
