Description

The Runstad Department of Real Estate in the College of Built Environments at the University of Washington invites applications for a teaching faculty position at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor and Director of Programs, with an anticipated start date of September 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community.

The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a nine-month academic appointment beginning September 16, 2027.

The base salary range for this position will be $12,000 - $14,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. The position carries a 9-month service period, running from September 16 through June 15 each year. The Director of Programs role receives the equivalent of one month of additional compensation.

The initial appointment for the Associate Teaching Professor and Director of Programs is athree‑year term, with eligibility for renewal of three- to five-year terms based on performance. Associate Teaching Professor positions are promo table, non-tenurable, and voting eligible.

Associate Teaching Professors at the University of Washington play a central role in fulfilling the institution’s educational mission. They design, deliver, and assess instruction across undergraduate and graduate programs, directly supporting student learning and academic success. The successful candidate will be expected to be on campus during the academic year to teach courses, mentor students, and engage in service activities, including service on departmental and college committees.

Selected candidates will be required to teach 24 credit hours during each academic year and may be assigned a combination of large lecture courses and small seminar courses, spanning both undergraduate and graduate levels as well as required and elective offerings across the curriculum. While serving in the Director of Programs role, the position will receive a 3-credit course release each year.

The Director of Programs provides leadership for the planning, implementation, and ongoing improvement of the department’s academic programs. Their role includes: overseeing and implementing curriculum and course updates; coordinating class offerings and quarterly scheduling; identifying instructional needs and providing onboarding guidance for new instructors; convening monthly instructor meetings to discuss courses and strengthen community; communicating with instructors about schedules, syllabi, course content, and logistical details;

participating in program information sessions; supporting the career fair, mentoring program, and other initiatives that connect students with employers and industry partners; collaborating closely with academic advisors to ensure that program structures and student support practices align with student needs and promote successful progression through the program; and contributing to graduation and celebration activities for students completing the program.

The Runstad Department of Real Estate within the College of Built Environments was established in 2017. The Department offers a Real Estate Major, a Real Estate Minor, a Master of Science in Real Estate, a Graduate Certificate in Real Estate, and a Graduate Certificate in Housing Studies.
