Description

Seattle Waldorf School is seeking experienced and engaging Ultimate coaches for our grades 5-8 spring Ultimate programs. Our fall season is an in-house, recreational program focused on building up Ultimate skills through drills, scrimmages and Ultimate-related games. In the spring season we'll participate in the DiscNW youth leagues. The fall season runs from September 8 through November
5. Practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5pm at Magnuson Park.

We are looking for coaches who are experienced with Ultimate, have strong leadership skills, and can inspire young athletes to strive for their personal best while building up a sense of sportsmanship, a strong and healthy team atmosphere, and a love for the game. We are looking for people who share our belief that an inclusive school community provides students with the best possible environment.

Job Summary:

Ultimate Coach for students in grades 5-8. Practices weekdays at Magnuson Park and games on the weekends during the spring season.

Specific Responsibilities:

Supervise participants throughout the practices and until they are picked up by their caregivers.

Plan and execute developmentally appropriate drills and activities.

Maintain team equipment and report any lost or damaged equipment to the Athletic Director.

Ensure health and safety of participants at all times. Respond to injuries according to First Aid guidelines and communicate with the Athletic Director about any injuries.

Facilitate a team environment that is welcoming to all, regardless of skill level and takes into the consideration the needs of every person individually.

Teach and uphold the values of sportsmanship, respect, and community.

Model a culture of continuous learning and striving for one’s personal best.

Read, understand, and uphold the school's code of conduct, including the current COVID protocols.

Communicate with the Athletic Director about any challenges or concerns.

Responsible for storing equipment after each practice.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements Preferred

Education & Experience:

Experience as an Ultimate player

Teaching, coaching, or leadership experience

Basic CPR and First Aid training

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Commitment to excellence in coaching, parent education and dialogue, self-development, and collegial cooperation

Strong leadership skills

Ability to work in a hands-on team environment

Possessing a level of cultural competency necessary for working with a diverse population in an inclusive and equitable community

We have a diverse student body, and we want all our teachers and coaches to have the skills necessary to ensure that their programs are safe and inclusive places for everyone

We seek teachers and coaches who are aware of the racial, socio-economic, gender, and other inequities present in education, and actively works to eliminate these in their programs

Ability to maintain confidential information

Ability to work and communicate well with student athletes and their parents

Flexibility, maturity, and a sense of humor

Ability to lift up to 30 pounds

Ability to work in all weather

Ability to travel locally

Summary

Hourly Pay Rate: $31.75

Benefits:
Seattle Sick and Safe Leave, accrued at 1 hour for every 40 hours worked
