UW Facilities Safety Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Safety Training Manager to join their team.
About This OpportunityReporting to the Director of Safety, the Safety Training Manager is responsible for working with the UW Facilities Safety department on the design, development, implementation, and administration of an effective safety training program for UW Facilities (UWF), including regulatory compliance, training evaluations, training needs assessments, skills and learning assessments, and comprehensive safety and health training planning. It provides health and safety training program development and support to all departments within UWF.
The Safety Training Manager partners with Executive Directors, Directors, Managers, and Supervisors throughout UWF to implement strategic safety program and training goals and ensure regulatory requirements are met.
- Develop curriculum and training aids for both in-person and online training. Prepare course materials and classrooms with training props, instruct students, and manage classroom participation and engagement.
- In collaboration with the UWF Assistant Director for Training, engage in activities to measure and continuously improve safety programs and training in alignment with UWF’s strategic goals, including collecting and maintaining metrics and preparing reports.
- Assess training effectiveness through course surveys, follow-up testing, review of incident-related data, and periodic review of course presentations and materials.
- Attend walkthroughs with Supervisors, Managers, and Directors at worksites to verify that safety programs and training are being followed in the field.
- Subject areas will include, but are not limited to: ergonomics, fall protection, lockout/tagout, Confined Space Entry, Scaffolding, Lead Worker, Asbestos Awareness, Respiratory protection, Ladder Safety, HAZWOPER, Electrical Safety, Trenching/Shoring, Hoisting/Rigging, Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP), and Forklift, and General Industry and Construction safety standards and requirements.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve regulatory-required health and safety programs, training plans, and guidance based on evolving regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and organizational needs. Collaborate with campus partners to respond to regulatory rule making and emerging safety standards.
- Partner with UW Facilities leadership and campus stakeholders to develop strategic safety initiatives and implementation plans that align with UW Facilities' strategic goals while promoting a culture of continuous improvement in workplace safety.
- Conduct ongoing health and safety training needs assessments across UW Facilities departments and periodic reviews to ensure services comply with applicable laws, regulations, institutional policies, and UW Facilities work practices.
- Ensure all required safety programs and training are developed and delivered in a timely manner.
- Maintain professional development by staying current with regulatory changes, industry best practices, University requirements, and other relevant information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- This position performs essential services and may be required to work during any period of declared suspended operation.
