Why Join Highline as a Guest (Substitute) Teacher?
Guest Teachers play a vital role in ensuring continuity of learning for students across Highline Public Schools. We welcome experienced educators, recently certificated educators, and individuals bringing relevant experience working with children and youth who are committed to supporting student success in diverse learning environments.
Substitutes who work 100 days the previous year and work 20 days in the new school year will be moved to Row b and receive the After 40 Nonconsecutive Days rate. The daily rate for substitutes who are retirees of the Highline School District will be consistent with Row b "After 40 Nonconsecutive Days." In addition, when substitutes are asked to use a scheduled planning period to cover a class not part of their originally assigned job, the substitute will be paid for that time at the Extra Duty Rate identified in Appendix
D.
** The Highline School District pays a contractual rate of pay after the twentieth consecutive day in the same assignment. The contractual rate of pay is taken from the current teacher salary schedule and placement is based upon education and years of experience. Experience verifications from other school districts or educational institutions, along with official transcripts are required in order to calculate placement.

Guest employees may become eligible for SEBB benefits after working 630 hours during a school year.

SUMMARY:
The position of Guest (Substitute) Teacher is to provide continuity of the learning environment in the absence of a regular classroom teacher. The Guest Teacher will present the lesson prepared by the teacher or provide alternative instruction if lesson plans are not available. Guest Teachers are expected to maintain a classroom environment that supports student learning and promotes a safe, productive educational setting.
- Guest Teachers may serve in day-to-day assignments, long-term assignments, and other substitute opportunities throughout the district based on qualifications and staffing needs.
- Guest Teachers support students with diverse academic, linguistic, cultural, and learning needs while following district and classroom expectations.
- Opportunities may be available across elementary, middle, and high school settings, including special/inclusive education and specialized programs.
Guest Teachers have the flexibility to accept assignments based on their availability and assignment preferences.
