Title: Assistant Professor in Political Science
Position DescriptionThe Department of Political Science at the University of Washington invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in International Relations at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of September 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full‑time basis for a nine‑month academic appointment, 3-year term, renewable, beginning September 16, 2027.
The base salary range for this position will be $10,500 - $14,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
The successful candidate will be expected to pursue a high‑quality research agenda and to teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses, as well as graduate seminars. The search is open with respect to subfield of International Relations (e.g., security studies, international political economy, international organization) and methodological approach. Applications are especially welcome from those studying pressing contemporary transnational issues, including but not limited to climate change, health, migration, inequality, or human rights.
All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.
QualificationsApplicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:
Applicants should demonstrate a record of teaching and research related to International Relations. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Political Science or a related field (or foreign equivalent) by the appointment start date. Applicants who are still awaiting conferral as of the agreed‑upon start date may be appointed on an acting basis.
