Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re developing reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond.

The New Glenn Avionics team covers power, GNC, network and communications, software, embedded systems, sensors, cabling, testing and integration. This position will support a multidisciplinary engineer who will design, test, and integrate upper stage avionics systems in a rapid development environment.

We are seeking an extremely ambitious Avionics Systems Engineer with a passion for the product lifecycle of ideation, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance for Reusable Payload Fairings. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of avionics system design and testing capabilities. Candidates are encouraged to apply if they meet most, but not all, of the qualifications below. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight.

Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end RPLF (Reusable Payload Fairing) avionics architecture, including power, data acquisition, GNC, RF, sensors and harnessing subsystems.
  • Conduct system analysis and trade studies to optimize performance, reliability, and cost across mission profiles.
  • Lead design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and ensure technical artifacts meet quality and compliance standards.
  • Author and review technical documents including drawings, analysis reports, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, test, software, manufacturing, production, and procurement teams to align technical execution with program milestones.
  • Create and track progress via Jira tickets, engaging in agile project management and participating in daily standups and sprint meetings.
  • Manage priorities and tasks to meet promised dates for deliverables.
  • Support the full product development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, deployment, and documentation.
  • Drive verification and validation planning, including environmental testing, functional checks, and mission simulations.
  • Develop and maintain interface control documents (ICDs) to ensure subsystem compatibility and integration fidelity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field with a strong track record in electronics and computing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in avionics systems design; aerospace experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of signal integrity, power distribution, embedded systems, communications, actuators, sensors, cabling and embedded system interfaces.
  • Experience creating 3D models in Creo of mechanical avionics components, assemblies, and installations.
  • Experience with PCB schematic design and layout for avionics components, following aerospace standards.
  • Hands-on experience designing, developing, and troubleshooting avionics hardware with equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, and environmental test equipment.
  • Experience developing and executing Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test setups for embedded software.
  • Ability to analyze system requirements and decompose complex problems into actionable hardware steps.
  • Familiarity with environmental testing per MIL-STD and SMC-S-016, and creating test plans with traceability.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Continuous learner and proactive problem solver, with interest in board development and hardware deployment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related…
