Overview

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations – Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance – and focuses on manufacturing and supply chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.
The successful candidate serve as the leading commercial market expert for critical commodities, defining supply‑base strategies, managing global supplier performance, and developing relationships with aerospace suppliers for our spaceflight programs. They will develop commodity strategies to mitigate business risks and guarantee continuity of supply, and will execute those strategies through RFx activities, long‑term contracts, and supplier partnership strategies.
Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership in evaluating, sourcing, and developing the supply base to support the development and production of space vehicles.
- Ensure the supply base can deliver to commercial component procurements on time and at the lowest lifecycle cost.
- Conduct capability and capacity assessments.
- Lead RFx activities for strategic procurements.
- Negotiate long‑term agreements.
- Develop and manage commodity metrics and reporting, including supplier rating and segmentation.
- Participate in improving databases that guide sourcing activity and capture supplier status and performance.
- Work with program stakeholders to identify long‑lead procurement requirements and gaps.
- Evaluate suitability and stability of current and potential suppliers.
- Lead suppliers through structural business changes required to fulfill program demand.
- Identify opportunities to rationalize and consolidate the supply base.
- Support supplier recognition program development and deployment.
- Identify candidate suppliers for M&A activity.
- Gather intelligence on strategic suppliers’ business health and inform leadership of risks and countermeasures.
- Collaborate with supply chain engineering, procurement, and supplier quality engineering on site surveys and evaluations.
- 8+ years managing commodities in aerospace R&D and manufacturing or in a regulated environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field.
- Extensive technical knowledge of assigned commodity manufacturing processes.
- Track record of improving supplier performance in cost, quality, or schedule.
- Travel 25%–50% of the time to remote sites.
- Experience sourcing for both development and production.
- Strong communication and cross‑functional teamwork skills.
- Exceptional organizational and analytical abilities.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Engineering background or strong technical experience with the commodity.
- CPM, CSCP, or equivalent certification.
- ASQ quality engineer certification.
- Supplier quality experience.
- Six sigma or lean process improvement experience.
- Experience with AS9100, ISO
9001, or FAR/DFAR requirements. - Experience with commercial programs and contracts.
