At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

We are a team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.

Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analyses for thermal protection system components and assemblies using finite element analysis (FEA) tools
  • Develop and validate finite element models for complex TPS structures
  • Conduct static, dynamic, thermal, and coupled thermal-structural analyses
  • Analyze composite structures and materials used in thermal protection systems
  • Support design optimization of TPS components for weight, performance, and manufacturability
  • Develop and document analysis methodologies specific to TPS applications
  • Create and maintain analysis reports and technical documentation
  • Support test planning, execution, and correlation of test data with analytical predictions
  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure TPS components meet structural requirements
  • Participate in design reviews and technical meetings
  • Support failure investigations through detailed structural analysis
  • Develop and maintain structural margins for flight certification
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate TPS with vehicle systems
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in structural analysis
  • Proficiency with finite element analysis software
  • Experience with structural mechanics principles and applications
  • Knowledge of material behavior and failure mechanisms
  • Understanding of composite materials and structures
  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering requirements
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Hyper Works and Hypermesh software
  • Advanced knowledge of composite material analysis and failure theories
  • Experience with thermal protection systems or high-temperature structures
  • Knowledge of materials used in TPS applications (ceramics, ceramic matrix composites, carbon-carbon)
  • Familiarity with other FEA software packages (Nastran, ANSYS, Abaqus)
  • Understanding of thermal analysis and heat transfer principles
  • Experience with non-linear analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of spacecraft or launch vehicle systems
  • Experience correlating analysis results with test data
  • Familiarity with systems engineering practices
  • Experience with design optimization methods
  • Master's degree in relevant engineering discipline with focus on structural analysis
