At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As part of a passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for the detailed structural analysis of Composite Over wrapped Pressure Vessels (COPVs) and other pressurized composite structures for the New Glenn program. In this role, you will contribute your technical expertise to ensure the structural integrity and reliability of flight-critical hardware through rigorous analysis.

Our team is at the forefront of developing the key technologies that will enable Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed structural analysis of pressurized composite structures using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to verify integrity for static, dynamic, and thermal loads.
  • Build, maintain, and refine high-fidelity FEA models for complex parts and assemblies.
  • Apply and improve analysis methods to accurately predict the performance, failure modes, and lifing of composite structures.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to guide the development of structurally efficient and manufacturable hardware.
  • Support the development of test plans and perform post-test correlation of analytical models with test data to validate model accuracy and improve methods.
  • Perform classical hand calculations to ground analytical models and provide rapid feedback for design trade studies.
  • Author clear and concise analysis reports and documentation to substantiate design integrity and support hardware certification.
  • Present analysis results and findings at technical peer reviews and program design reviews.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related engineering field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the structural analysis of complex mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing linear and non-linear analysis using FEA software (ANSYS, Abaqus, or Nastran preferred).
  • Strong foundation in solid mechanics and understanding of classical laminate theory and composite failure criteria.
  • Proven ability to connect analysis to first principles and perform verification calculations.
  • Experience in the analysis of pressure vessels, composite structures, or similar hardware.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD software (Siemens NX preferred).
Desired
  • Master of Science in a relevant engineering field with a focus on solid mechanics or composite materials.
  • Experience analyzing Composite Over wrapped Pressure Vessels (COPVs) for aerospace or high-performance applications.
  • Experience with advanced composite analysis techniques such as progressive damage modeling.
  • Proficiency with a programming language (such as Python or MATLAB) to automate analysis workflows and post-process data.
  • Experience correlating structural analysis models with test data.
  • Familiarity with industry standards for pressure vessel analysis and certification (e.g., ASME BPVC Section VIII, AIAA S-080/081).
  • Experience working in a fast-paced development environment.
