Job Description
ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN IV. This is a waterfront shipboard construction and remodelling position, working within shipyards and drydocks onboard U.S. Naval ships. The incumbent will work in varying temperatures of high heat in summer and cold in winter performing the following tasks:
- Installs, maintains, repairs, overhauls, troubleshoots, modifies, constructs and tests various types of electrical, electronic, and/or mechanical equipment and related devices.
- Applies technical knowledge of electronics principles to put equipment into operational condition and solve complex problems.
- Troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions using specialized test and diagnostic equipment.
- Modifies circuitry to improve performance.
- Provides recommendations for improvements or modifications to correct problems.
- Provides operation/maintenance instruction to customer personnel.
- Prepares operating and malfunction reports and related documentation.
- Works with engineering staff to determine and solve equipment design problems.
- Performs quality assurance testing of assemblies and equipment fabricated by other technicians.
- Provides work leadership to less‑experienced technicians.
- Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.
- Participates in special projects as required.
- Installs and maintains Fiber Optic cables aboard naval ships.
- Splices and terminates fiber optic cables.
- Performs fiber tests: OTDR, power meter/laser source, and scopes.
- Associate’s degree in Arts, Science, or related field.
- 5+ years of related experience or 3+ years of related experience and 5+ years of engineering technician experience.
- US citizenship required.
- Customer site location, USA WA Seattle.
- Security clearance: none required, but must be able to obtain.
- Cableway Certified.
- Conerter Certified Modular, COAX, Multi‑Pin, Connector Fabricator and Inspector.
- Fiber Optic Cable Handling, Pulling, Forming/Shaping, BOF, Single/Multi, Optical Testing, Fusion Splicing.
- Supervisor & QA, BOF Licensed Installer.
- WAF Tagout qualified.
- Education:
Associates of Arts/Science. - Location:
Customer site. - US citizenship required.
- Hourly rate likely between $29.52 – $37.95.
- Scheduled weekly hours: 40.
- Travel required:
