This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth.

As part of a hardworking team of technicians, you will assist with process development for various material systems to be used in spaceflight hardware. This role will be hands-on in a laboratory environment, working together with a team on various composite material systems to be used in spaceflight hardware. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with process development for various composite material systems to be used in spaceflight hardware.
  • Configure new production work areas with tooling and equipment to enable efficient workflow.
  • Fabricate, manufacture, assemble, and test composite coupons and hardware in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and written procedures.
  • Prepare and test payload systems and hardware, including adhesive bonding, surface preparation, fixturing, bagging, sealing, composite layup, curing, and repair.
  • Setup and operate a wide range of precision calibrated tools, including torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, laser tracker, height gauges, and optical measuring instruments.
  • Operate or support specialized equipment such as autoclaves, large ovens, inspection cameras, CNC routers, mills, or trim and drill equipment.
  • Clean, reseal, and prepare layup mold tools using appropriate release systems.
  • Utilize manual, electric, and pneumatic tools to fabricate and maintain composite structures, molds, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Perform nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods to verify part conformance.
  • Check completed products for conformance to specifications and defects.
  • Document all aspects of the development process and support the transition from development to production.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas following 5S principles to promote safety and operational efficiency.
  • Apply understanding of equipment maintenance, diagnostic principles, and root cause/corrective action (RCCA).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in aerospace manufacturing, integration, composites, or related field.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following: composite materials storage, kitting, lamination, out-of-autoclave (OoA) curing, autoclave curing, tooling, or nondestructive evaluation.
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures.
  • Experience operating precision calibration tools (torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, laser tracker, height gauges, optical instruments).
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Proficiency with adhesives, sealants, and thermal blanket applications.
  • Proficiency in digital tools, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry certification, trade school training, and/or degree in a related field.
  • Experience with cryogenic systems, fluid assembly, and aerospace/launch vehicle integration.
  • Experience working with large composite structures, out-of-autoclave curing, and production control systems.
  • Experience with machining composite materials
