Furtado is a dynamic consulting firm based in Seattle WA., specializing in innovative land surveying, geospatial services, construction management, and engineering solutions. We are a privately held, DBE, MBE, SBE certified firm working on a variety of community improving infrastructure projects throughout the Puget Sound region, including Sound Transit’s Link Light Rail Extensions, King County CSO program, and with various City and County agencies on utility, port and corridor projects.

Our team currently has an opening for an experienced professional to fill the role of GIS Department Manager. In this position, the successful applicant will be responsible for critical elements of project delivery, from scope and fee development through planning, coordinating and managing the work for our clients. The

Position:

The successful candidate will serve as a technical expert/specialist for GIS specific or GIS related technology and will be expected to manage multiple projects, build client relationships, develop project requirements, project plans, and scopes of work. This is a full-time, exempt, position located in Seattle, Washington.

Job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate with various clients to obtain project and opportunity leads.
  • Research market trends, economic indicators, and new client and project opportunities
  • Develop, organize, and manage GIS Department portfolios
  • Calculate risks, implement mitigation strategies, and monitor GIS Department performance.
  • Develop and enforce data management policies, standards, and frameworks to ensure data quality and compliance
  • Design, implement, and maintain data storage, warehousing, and retrieval systems, working with other departments to optimize performance
  • Manage daily operations of GIS team and databases.
  • Prepare scopes of work and prepare fee estimates for various projects and bid packages.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate staffing levels needed for projects.
  • Plan, guide, and supervise engineering activities for multiple projects concurrently.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and management of GIS projects, including spatial data analysis, mapping, database management, and project management.
  • Manage project deadlines, budget and scope to ensure that a high-quality deliverable is produced on time and within budget.
  • Facilitates communication among clients and engineers, ensuring specifications, budgets, and deadlines are clearly communicated and understood.
  • Guide and direct design teams on preparation of client deliverables and ensure the QA/QC process has been followed.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, staff and company management.
  • Establish and maintain excellent client relations.
  • May be required to function as project manager on certain projects.
  • Lead a team of GIS specialists and analysts, providing guidance and support to ensure the team meets its objectives and deadlines.
  • Advocates on behalf of team members by securing adequate resources for success.
  • Collaborate with other department managers at Furtado to identify and prioritize GIS needs and ensure projects are performed in accordance with Furtado’s GIS management goals.
  • Maintains knowledge of new technologies and best practices; applies this knowledge to continually improve production efficiency.
Desired

Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of GIS market, software and equipment.
  • 10 or more years of experience managing GIS projects for public sector clients.
  • Proficient in use of ArcGIS, Esri, Bluebeam, use of spreadsheets, use of Google Earth KMZ files or equivalent, AutoCAD, and Civil3D.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills together with a proven track record of working effectively with internal teams and external clients.
  • Experience working successfully to meet deadlines, able to handle multiple tasks and efficiently respond to changing priorities.
  • Experience dealing directly with clients and formal management of projects.
  • Thorough understanding of state and local regulations related to surveying desired.
  • Experience with ROW plans and legal description preparation desired.
