Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hardware Engineering Services (HWEngS) owns the new product development (NPI) and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.
Senior Cloud Hardware Development Engineer (CHDE)Our CHDEs architect, design, develop, and build next-generation servers and AWS‑specific hardware components. The designs are industry‑leading in performance, frugality, and operational excellence, enabling AWS to realize critical business strategies.
What you will doAs a member of the Specialized Platforms and Servers team, you’ll integrate hardware/software components to build our servers, work with service teams to define products, and support Data Center Operations across all locations. You will collaborate with engineers across the company to execute product designs from concept to production, including design, development, validation, and deployment of servers at scale.
Key job responsibilities- Integrate new technology into servers and scale operations for a massive existing fleet.
- Collaborate with internal development teams and external suppliers to deliver high‑performance, high‑quality servers.
- Establish strategic vision and drive execution in defining and delivering new products and services.
- Lead integration and delivery of servers, support automation of monitoring, and drive failure analysis to operate, debug, and scale services.
- Work closely with AWS software teams to tailor and operate server solutions for the AWS environment.
- Support launching servers into production and operating the fleet.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent, or 5+ years of relevant technical experience.
- 5+ years of experience in server level design for compute, storage, accelerator, or other complex product design.
- 5+ years of experience leading ODMs and suppliers in product development and manufacturing processes.
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
- Experience in board and server root‑cause analysis and resolution.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in complex product development such as servers, network switches, or other highly integrated devices.
- Expertise in early product definition and feature trade‑off analysis.
- Expertise in product development disciplines such as thermal, mechanical, power, firmware/software, reliability, and sustaining.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
- Proficient scripting, debugging abilities, and Linux operations commands.
- Experience deploying and operating hardware and applications across large data centers.
- Experience leading hardware and software development engineering teams.
- Meets or exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
- Meets or exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.

Compensation and BenefitsThe base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
