Job Summary

Senior Energy Engineer – a senior technical leader within the Wastewater Treatment Division’s Energy Program. The role advances energy and greenhouse gas reduction initiatives across facilities and off‑site wastewater systems, leading program analytics, modeling, forecasting, and technical standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain integrated programmatic tracking tools that consolidate energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and related operational and financial data to support performance reporting and long‑term planning.
  • Lead preparation and management of the division’s greenhouse gas inventory; monitor evolving emissions accounting methodologies and provide technical analysis to inform program decisions.
  • Conduct advanced energy modeling, normalization, and forecasting analyses to support operational planning, capital prioritization, and climate performance evaluation.
  • Represent the Energy Program on selected complex or high‑impact capital projects, especially those involving off‑site facilities such as pump stations and CSO systems.
  • Develop and steward energy‑related technical standards, design guidelines, and guide specifications to ensure consistent integration of energy efficiency and decarbonization strategies.
  • Support the Energy Program and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field and progressively responsible experience in energy engineering, industrial energy systems, or a closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex energy modeling, forecasting, and/or greenhouse gas analysis in an industrial or utility setting.
  • Experience designing or significantly improving structured performance tracking or reporting systems that integrate technical, operational, and financial data.
  • Experience serving as a primary or lead technical representative on complex infrastructure or capital projects, providing independent analysis and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical analyses into clear recommendations that inform cross‑disciplinary decision‑making.

Required Licenses
  • Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington within three months of employment.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License (or ability to obtain upon hire).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with wastewater treatment, pump stations, CSO facilities, or other complex industrial infrastructure.
  • Experience developing or managing greenhouse gas inventories or emissions reporting in an industrial or utility setting.
  • Experience building or refining analytical tools that integrate technical, operational, and financial data to support program or capital planning decisions.
Working Conditions

The position follows a hybrid work model with a mix of remote and in‑person days. Full‑time (40 hours/week) in Seattle, WA. The role is exempt from overtime under the Fair Labor Standard Act.
