Job Description & How to Apply Below

AIM builds autonomy for the real world - robots that move mountains. Our systems fuse software, hardware, robotics, and mission-critical infrastructure into ruggedized, safety-critical machinery operating on jobsites across the world. We replace decades of manual, error-prone, high-risk work with intelligent machines that reshape how earthmoving is done.

We are seeking an experienced Wiring Technician & Lab Manager to join our hardware engineering team. This onsite role combines hands-on expertise in wiring harness fabrication and prototype cable assembly with responsibility for maintaining a safe, organized, and highly functional lab environment. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced hardware development setting, brings strong technical skill in electrical systems for heavy machinery, and takes genuine ownership of the lab as a shared resource that enables the broader team to work efficiently.

Key Responsibilities Wiring & Prototype Cable Harnesses
  • Fabricate, assemble, and test prototype wiring harnesses and cable assemblies for heavy machinery (bulldozers, excavators, loaders).

  • Interpret electrical schematics and translate them into physical harness builds and routing configurations.

  • Select appropriate connectors, terminals, wire gauges, and protective sleeving for rugged, off-highway environments.

  • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to iterate on harness designs for performance, durability, and ease of installation.

  • Conduct continuity, insulation resistance, and voltage drop testing on completed assemblies; document results.

  • Support root cause analysis for wiring-related field or bench failures.

  • Assist with creation and maintenance of wiring BOMs, assembly drawings, and installation instructions.

  • Maintain and operate crimping, soldering, and test equipment; flag calibration or maintenance needs.

Lab Management & Organization
  • Own the day-to-day organization and cleanliness of the hardware lab and tooling areas; establish and enforce labeling, storage, and 5S standards.

  • Maintain inventory of tools, consumables, components, and lab supplies; proactively reorder stock before shortages impact engineering work.

  • Manage tool checkout systems and ensure equipment is returned, functional, and properly stored after use.

  • Coordinate with facilities and vendors for lab equipment maintenance, repairs, and calibration scheduling.

  • Assist with receiving, logging, and organizing incoming hardware shipments, prototypes, and equipment.

  • Identify and implement improvements to lab layout, bench setup, and workflow efficiency as the team and project scope grows.

  • Support onboarding of new team members with lab orientation, safety procedures, and tool training.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for lab-related facilities requests and issues.

Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience in wiring harness fabrication, cable assembly, or electrical technician work, preferably for off‑road, heavy machinery, or industrial equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, harness drawings, and wiring diagrams.

  • Proficiency with crimping, soldering, heat‑shrink, and connector assembly tools and processes.

  • Demonstrated experience maintaining an organized, efficient lab, shop, or production environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and pride in keeping shared spaces functional for the whole team.

  • Excellent communication and coordination skills; comfortable working cross‑functionally with engineers, facilities, and vendors.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and elevate issues appropriately in a fast‑paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CAD tools such as Altium, Solid Works Electrical, or Zuken E3.series for referencing harness documentation.

  • Familiarity with CAN bus systems, power distribution, and sensor/actuator interfacing.

  • Experience working with PLM or inventory management systems (e.g., Duro, Teamcenter).

  • Background in 5S, lean manufacturing, or similar lab/workspace organization methodologies.

  • Experience with CAT (Caterpillar) or similar OEM heavy equipment wiring systems.

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Electronics, or a related field.

  • Experience coordinating lab safety programs or conducting equipment training for new team members.
