Source the Hardware That Powers Drone Delivery
Prime Air needs a commodity specialist who can source advanced components that meet aerospace safety standards while scaling to millions of deliveries. You will balance cost, quality, and innovation across suppliers in electronics, mechanical systems, and aerospace hardware.
As a Prime Air – Supply Chain Contracts & Procurement Specialist, you will manage sourcing and supplier relationships for hardware components that power the drone delivery system. You will execute commodity strategies, negotiate with suppliers, drive orders, analyze spend patterns, and optimize cost while ensuring quality and delivery performance. You will work directly with Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to support Prime Air’s rapid scaling across the US and Europe.
Key Responsibilities- Manage Hardware Commodity Categories:
Own day‑to‑day commodity management for assigned hardware categories (electronics, sensors, motors, batteries, mechanical components, structural materials). Execute sourcing strategies, manage supplier relationships, and drive performance improvements. - Execute Strategic Sourcing
Activities:
Conduct RFx processes, evaluate supplier proposals, perform cost analysis, and support contract negotiations. Use spend analysis and benchmarking to identify cost savings and improve total cost of ownership. - Drive Supplier Performance:
Monitor supplier performance on quality, delivery, cost, and responsiveness. Conduct regular business reviews, track key performance indicators, and drive corrective actions. - Support New Product Introduction:
Partner with Engineering teams to identify and qualify suppliers for new hardware components. Evaluate supplier technical capabilities, manufacturing capacity, and quality systems. Support prototype builds, design changes, and production ramps. - Analyze Spend and Market Trends:
Track commodity spend patterns, identify cost drivers, and analyze market trends that impact pricing and availability. Develop should‑cost models and competitive benchmarks. - Ensure Supply Continuity:
Monitor supplier health, identify supply chain risks, and develop mitigation plans. Coordinate with suppliers on inventory positioning, lead time management, and capacity planning. - Collaborate Cross‑Functionally:
Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Finance, and Operations teams to align commodity activities with program needs. Serve as the subject matter expert for cost estimating and make‑versus‑buy decisions.
This position may require a deemed export control license for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Placement is contingent on Amazon’s ability to apply for and obtain the required license.
Basic Qualifications- 2+ years of program, project, or product management experience.
- 6+ years of related industry experience.
- 8+ years of data analysis using tools such as Excel, Pivot Tables, SQL, Tableau, or equivalent.
- 8+ years of high‑volume manufacturing operations or sourcing environments experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Experience in global supply chain management and managing cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced consumer electronics product company.
- Experience in program, project, or product management or leading product implementation.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience in data centers, infrastructure service providers, or related technology companies.
- Experience negotiating with global suppliers with a proven track record in cost reduction.
- Experience in procurement practices working with engineering, supply chain, and Tier 1 OEM partners.
- Experience practicing best‑in‑class procurement processes (category management, benchmarking, should‑cost models, RFX, reverse auction, contracting, or equivalent).
Location:
Seattle, Washington, USA. Salary range: $147,900 – $200,100 USD annually.
