Kapta Space, a VC-funded early-stage startup in Seattle, WA, is breaking new ground in Geospatial Intelligence. Our technology centers around a proven, scalable electronically-steered radar for sophisticated spaceborne applications such as earth observation using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) techniques, as well as enabling advanced defense missions such as target tracking.

We are looking to foster mutually beneficial internship opportunities which provide engineering experience and skill development, where successful candidates will make meaningful contributions to Kapta’s progress and obtain an introduction to the quickly growing space industry in the Seattle area. There are more satellites built here in the greater Seattle area than anywhere else in the world!

Kapta Space is a casual work environment with an open office plan meant to encourage collaboration. The office operates on a standard 8 hour Monday to Friday schedule, with the team arriving at 8:00 am and departing at 5:00 pm.

As a contributing member of the engineering team that is building and testing hardware, on-site in-person work is a requirement for awareness, engagement and collaboration. Kapta provides flexibility based on personal preferences and availability on an as-needed basis.

Our Kapta office is located in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. The office has access to the Burke Gilman trail and several Seattle Metro bus lines.

Engineering interns will receive a weekly stipend, starting at a minimum of $1400/week which will be determined and finalized based on an individual’s experience and skill level. Kapta does not provide financial support for relocation to or housing while in the Seattle area.

Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of relevant STEM based undergrad or graduate coursework. Please submit a transcript with your application.

Basic Qualifications:

Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience in at least 2-3 of the following skills:
  • Familiarity with coding or scripting either with or without Integrated Development Environment
  • Experience with CAD-based mechanical design. Open source / free versions are still useful.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and debugging procedures and processes
  • Experience with electrical/electronics test and measurement
  • Experience with analysis and processing of test and/or simulation data
  • Experience understanding system block diagrams, schematics, data-sheets, and drawings
  • Familiarity with an electronics laboratory environment
Other Desired

Skills:

Successful candidates may have prior skills and experience with the following:
  • Experience writing/debugging code and scripts in:
    Matlab, Python, C/C++, VHDL/Verilog
  • Familiar with schematic capture and/or layout, particularly with in Altium Designer
  • Experience and familiarity with lab-based electronics test equipment such as: power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters, function/and or signal generators, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers
  • Experience with PCB based electronics assembly, rework, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with RF/mm-wave antenna and device testing and measurement
  • Experience and familiarity with RF simulation tools such as CST, HFSS, or Sonnet
  • Experience with electromechanical design and use of CAD such as AutoCAD or Solidworks
  • Experience with 3D printing and other rapid prototyping methods/tools
