At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond.
Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be part of the mechanical team that helps develop innovative designs for New Glenn Avionics. In this role, you will play a crucial role in the transition of the New Glenn launch vehicle from development to full-rate production. You will be responsible for providing analytical support for sustaining engineering activities, with a primary focus on managing the engineering change process for multiple program variants.
This position demands a keen eye for detail and the ability to perform robust technical assessments of engineering drawings and models to support our fast-paced production environment. You must have a willingness to take ownership of unfamiliar and complex problems, communicate effectively, and deliver technically excellent results in an timely ambitious and dynamic environment.
We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!
** Responsibilities:
*** Perform and document structural analyses on avionics assemblies, establishing margins of safety and ensuring compliance with applicable requirements
* Conduct dynamic assessments of avionics hardware by evaluating flight and test data against environment specifications, correlating analytical models with measured data as needed
* Support design and test readiness reviews & collaborate cross-functionally with systems, test, quality, and manufacturing teams.
* Review and approve avionics mechanical drawings for correctness, compliance with design standards, and alignment with design intent
* Investigate, assess, and disposition nonconformances (NCs) on avionics flight and test hardware, including use-as-is, rework, and repair analyses to support hardware acceptance
*
* Qualifications:
*** Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
* Proficient in FEA tools (ANSYS preferred) with strong structural hand calculation skills.
* Experience with static structural, modal, and random vibration analysis (level commensurate on experience)
* A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience
* Ability to be self-directed and balance several tasks at one time
* Ability to communicate analysis results effectively
* Excellent attention to detail and strong task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work.
** Desired:
*** Experience supporting aerospace avionics and routed systems
* Experience with performing ANSYS Sherlock or Steinberg solder fatigue analyses.
* Experience post-processing and interpreting dynamic environmental data (e.g., vibration, shock)
* Experience with CREO/Windchill parts, assemblies, and drawings
* Experience with GD&T implementation and analysis (ASME Y14.5)
