Our client is hiring a Principal Engineer - EWIS to join their team! As a growing aerospace engineering company, they focus on supporting aircraft design, analysis, testing, certification, and flight test programs for commercial and defense customers. Their engineering teams work closely with customers to solve complex technical challenges across the full aircraft development lifecycle.
We are looking for an experienced Principal Engineer – EWIS to support electrical wiring interconnection system design, integration, testing, and certification activities across multiple aerospace programs. This role is best suited for someone with strong aircraft wiring design experience who can work independently, collaborate across disciplines, and support certification efforts from concept through installation.
What You'll Do- Serve as a technical lead for EWIS design and certification activities
- Develop new wire installation designs, modifications, and rework packages
- Create, modify, and maintain the wiring diagrams, installation drawings, cable/wire assembly drawings, form boards and wire data lists across all programs
- Develop wire harness routing models and assemblies in 3D CAD environments
- Support integration of EWIS designs into Digital Mock-Up (DMU) models
- Select appropriate electrical components such as wire, connectors, backshells, shield coverage, strain reliefs, and related wiring components to ensure the EWIS design meets the customer requirements in a certifiable manner
- Coordinate closely with systems engineers, manufacturing, supply chain, and certification teams
- Support manufacturing and installation activities by ensuring accurate work instructions and return-to-service documentation
- Participate in and lead design reviews
- Work with DERs and certification authorities to support airworthiness and compliance efforts
- Create and review certification artifacts and compliance documentation
- Maintain working knowledge of applicable certification regulations and guidance material including FARs, ACs, TSOs, and related standards
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another STEM field
- 10+ years of relevant EWIS or aerospace electrical integration experience preferred
- Strong working knowledge of Electrical Wiring Interconnection systems: 25.17XX, 25.1309, System separations, EZAP, HIRF/EMI, EWIS components, Shielding, Grounding, harness protection, mitigation techniques, etc.
- Experience supporting aerospace certification efforts is preferred
- Experience with 2D wire harness design tools, ideally Capital Harness
- Experience with 3D wire harness design tools such as CATIA or NX
- Ability to work cross-functionally across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and certification groups
- Open to travel up to 25% (may be required for domestic and international program support)
