Civil Engineer – Transportation Improvement Section

Overview

In this role you will be the team lead and project manager for transportation project design and execution, overseeing design, scheduling, and coordination with multiple project partners. You will guide the team in scope, budget, and on‑time delivery, ensuring high quality to keep the county’s transportation improvement program on track.

• Develop, administer, design, and inspect capital improvement projects, including roadway, sidewalks, ADA improvements, shared use paths, roundabouts, and related infrastructure.
• Review and resolve conflicts with franchise utilities in rights‑of‑way locations.
• Analyze, review, and prepare engineering reports required by state, federal, and local authorities, and present findings orally or in writing.
• Recommend changes to consultant‑engineered plans to meet county standards.
• Ensure compliance with critical area and environmental regulations; write project conditions.
• Prepare and review comprehensive engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Plan, coordinate, and manage administration of contracts and agreements with consultants.
• Calculate and verify payment quantities; review calculations and submittal accuracy.
• Serve as field engineer or project manager on construction projects.
• Assign and assist technicians and lower‑level engineers with construction project inspection and administration.

• Registration as an Engineer‑in‑Training.
• Seven years of progressively responsible experience related to the position.
• ABET‑accredited bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or related field) may substitute up to four years of experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Resume and cover letter required.

• Professional Engineer’s license.
