Associate Engineer, Streetlight Engineering

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Streetlight Engineering Team. The Electrical Engineer Associate will serve as project engineer on complex and highly visible Capital Improvement Projects such as Sound Transit Ballard Link Extension, SDOT Harrison and Mercer Transit Access, SCL Underground Cable Replacement, and various State and Local Transportation and Transit Improvement projects. This position will also be responsible for designing electrical infrastructure, preparing work packages, and evaluating lighting on increasingly complex street improvement and other related public works projects.

Here is more about what you'll be doing:

* Serve as project engineer on Capital Improvement projects and other public works construction projects

* Design complex detailed computer-aided drawings and prepare maps, plans, revisions, schematics, one-line diagrams, and as-built drawings of electrical infrastructure and street lighting facilities

* Prepare specifications and requisitions for procuring equipment, services and materials; write correspondence required to initiate orders or change orders to the suppliers

* Recommend purchase following evaluation of bids; trace material and equipment delays; inspect goods upon receipt; negotiate problems of error and deficiency with manufacturers or suppliers

* Oversee construction work and visit work sites to check progress, verify compliance with instructions and respond to inquiries and problems from crews and contractors

* Attend pre-construction and construction meetings to determine project schedules and requirements

* Answer questions from departmental personnel concerning lighting design, work orders, distribution maps and consultant documents

* Assist and review work of other engineering personnel, and provide training as required. Participate in the selection of subordinates

* Review final plans, specifications and agreements with consultants, engineers, and project managers

* Interact with internal and external engineering personnel, government agencies, contractors, consultants, and the public to exchange information, coordinate work, answer questions and respond to complaints

* Investigate property damage and injury claims requiring engineering judgments

* Participate in presentations, special projects and assignments as directed

In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:

Requires three years of professional electrical engineering experience and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or other combinations of education and/or experience which provides preparation to do professional electrical engineering work.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

* Most work is performed in a normal City work/office environment.

* Field assignments may entail exposure to all types of weather, traffic, hazardous/toxic substances, high voltage energized equipment and work in or near construction sites.

* May be required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.

* May be required to work nights, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

* Overnight travel may be required.

License, Certification and Other Requirements

Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
