Lead Structural Engineer (Generation)
OpportunityWSP is searching for a Lead Structural Engineer (Generation) to join our Power & Energy team in Houston, TX. Other eligible locations include Hailey, ;
Seattle, WA;
Overland Park, KS;

Mt. Laurel, NJ; and Boise, .
The candidate will be involved in projects with the Power Generation Team and contribute to our client’s objectives.
Your Impact- Design light foundations and structures for solar farms, battery energy storage facilities, and substation projects
- Design heavy foundations and structures for large power generation projects: generators, turbines, transformers, pipe racks, gas compressors, metal building systems, and masonry walls/buildings
- Design structural steel systems for buildings, platforms, equipment supports, etc.
- Coordinate design requirements with drafters and designers
- Occasional travel (5%-10%) to clients and sites to interface with clients, verify conditions, and monitor construction progress
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally
- Collaborate with engineers, professionals, and authorities on federal, state, regional, local, and privately funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposals and business development opportunities
- Exercise ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and adherence to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- 7+ years of relevant post‑education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience
- PE license
- Proficiency with structural engineering principles, practices, and application to project work‑related issues
- Knowledge of structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements
- Experience with power generation, transmission, and distribution projects
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas professionally to engineering and non‑engineering audiences
- High‑level self‑leadership, attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment
- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline‑specific design software (Micro Station, AutoCAD, RISA, STADD), technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools
- Well‑developed critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to analyze testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis, and reach effective solutions
- Effectiveness at coordinating and directing subcontractors to complete tasks safely and efficiently
- Knowledge of geotechnical engineering
- Experience with pre‑engineered metal building systems
- Experience with seismic analysis and design
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies
- Ability to work schedules beyond the typical workweek as required by project needs
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project requirements
- Open to longer‑duration field assignments (1 to 18 months)
- Master’s Degree in Engineering

CompensationExpected Salary (all locations): $98,300 - $175,230
