The Ship Assistant Superintendent at Holland America Line and Seabourn is responsible for supporting technical operations and maintenance activities for assigned vessels under the guidance of Fleet Directors or superintendents. This role involves assisting with planned maintenance tracking, documentation, and compliance tasks, as well as supporting dry‑dock and wet‑dock planning and execution. The Assistant Superintendent works closely with shipboard engineering teams, Fleet Technical Operations, and supply chain partners to ensure timely coordination of technical requirements and accurate reporting.
You will contribute to certification tracking, audit preparation, and project documentation while promoting adherence to safety and environmental standards. The position also includes monitoring requisitions, assisting with cost tracking, and maintaining communication between shoreside and onboard teams. The ideal candidate will have a valid maritime engineering license, 2–3 years’ experience, familiarity with AMOS systems or similar, and strong organizational and communication skills.
Vessel Technical Support and Maintenance:
Assist in monitoring planned maintenance activities through AMOS and ensuring accurate documentation under the guidance of ship superintendents. Evaluate technical issues reported by shipboard teams in both hotel and technical spaces to coordinate corrective actions. Prepare requisitions for spares and services, follow up with the supply chain team on delivery timelines, and maintain up‑to‑date certifications and technical records. Participate in ship visits and assess technical conditions, update maintenance plans, and analyze performance reporting to support long‑term technical planning.Dry‑Dock and Wet‑Dock Support:
Assist with dry‑dock and wet‑dock planning and execution under supervision. Prepare specifications and documentation for projects, coordinate with internal teams and external vendors, maintain accurate records of docking activities, update project files, and follow up on assigned actions to ensure compliance with timelines and standards. Communicate with shipboard teams to confirm readiness and resource availability, supporting major technical and hotel projects that impact vessel performance.Budget and Cost Tracking:
Monitor technical expenses for assigned vessels or projects, ensuring accurate reporting of costs. Track spending against approved budgets, prepare cost summaries, and provide transparency in financial documentation. Collaborate with supply chain and finance teams to verify invoices and comply with purchasing procedures.Compliance and Certification:
Prepare for audits and inspections by maintaining accurate records and coordinating with shipboard teams. Review non‑conformances and support corrective action plans. Liaise with classification societies to facilitate compliance activities, monitor adherence to Global HESS and SMS standards, and report gaps promptly to safeguard the company’s reputation.Communication and
Collaboration:
Act as a key liaison between shipboard teams and shoreside departments, provide status reports on projects and maintenance activities, and resolve issues in coordination with superintendents. Collaborate with electrical and hotel teams to ensure technical needs are addressed, maintain accurate records of discussions, and foster a culture of responsiveness and continuous improvement.
