SPU's System Operations, Planning, and Analysis (SOPA) section is seeking a collaborative and experienced Wastewater Operations and Maintenance Engineer (Senior Civil Engineer) to support our Drainage and Wastewater Line-of-Business. In this role, you will play a key part in optimizing the performance, reliability, and sustainability of our wastewater systems. You will work closely with a diverse team of professionals committed to protecting public health and maintaining a healthy environment.

Your expertise will help ensure that our infrastructure operates safely, efficiently, and in alignment with our community and environmental stewardship goals.

Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct field investigations to troubleshoot operational issues or data discrepancies.
  • Support crews to troubleshoot issues and answer questions during planning and construction of rehabilitation work to improve wastewater system performance and/or extend life of infrastructure.
  • Conduct wastewater system performance assessments and evaluate maintenance options; advise on product selection and sizing. Develop rough order of magnitude cost estimates.
  • Act as liaison between SPU's Drainage and Wastewater (DWW) System Management Division, DWW Planning and Program Management Division, Utility Operations and Maintenance Division, DWW System Maintenance Division, Project Delivery and Engineering Branch, and other divisions for coordinated wastewater system performance.

Qualifications

Experience: Five (5) years of professional civil engineering experience.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology — or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required background to perform the work.

License, Certification and Other Requirements

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington.
  • Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
