We are partnering with a leading engineering consulting firm seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of cutting‑edge technologies that improve energy efficiency and accelerate building decarbonization.
This is an opportunity to work on impactful projects across multifamily housing, commercial office, municipal, and healthcare sectors, supporting both new construction and retrofit applications. Key Areas of Focus- Electrifying buildings by replacing fossil fuel systems with efficient heat pump and electric technologies.
- Improving building energy efficiency to reduce overall energy demand.
- Supporting grid resiliency through technologies that shift energy use away from peak demand periods.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:
- Lead mechanical design projects from concept through construction.
- Design HVAC systems, including load calculations, equipment selection, and system layouts.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with plumbing and electrical disciplines.
- Develop construction drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
- Present design options and recommendations to clients and project stakeholders.
- Perform construction administration, including submittal reviews, RFIs, site observations, and contractor coordination.
- Serve as the primary client contact for assigned projects.
- Conduct Life Cycle Cost Analyses (LCCA) to evaluate energy conservation measures.
- Assess existing buildings and identify opportunities for energy improvements.
- Stay current with evolving building codes, sustainability standards, and emerging technologies.
- Collaborate with research and technical teams to validate innovative building technologies.
- Ensure quality assurance and quality control for engineering deliverables.
- Mentor junior engineers and support project management best practices.
- Assist with project scoping and business development efforts.
- Developing practical, innovative solutions to complex building engineering challenges.
- Managing multiple projects with varying scopes, timelines, and stakeholders.
- Delivering high‑quality engineering solutions on schedule and within budget.
- Building strong relationships with clients while coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong practical engineering judgment with the ability to integrate new technologies into real‑world applications.
- Curiosity and willingness to challenge conventional approaches.
- Deep understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and building energy systems.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non‑technical teams.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or a related field with 6+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 5+ years of experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- At least one year of project management experience.
- Knowledge of building codes and green building rating systems (LEED, ESDS, Living Building Challenge, etc.).
- Proficiency with:
- AutoCAD 2D
- Revit
- Microsoft 365
- Experience with energy modeling software such as Energy Plus, eQuest, or IES.
- Programming experience with Python, R, or MATLAB.
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
Hybrid schedule with a minimum of three days per week in the downtown Seattle office.
