This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, focused on the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines powers the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.
Role and ResponsibilitiesAs a Propulsion Engineer, you will work with a team of experts to deliver technically mature designs for the BE-7 Lunar Lander Engine. The group covers the entire product lifecycle, from initial requirements to final delivery. Your responsibilities include providing new or revised design releases for primary/secondary structures, heat exchangers, gimbal joints, flexible elements, insulation, and pressurized cryogenic fluid systems. Work will incorporate learnings from test campaigns and builds at multiple Blue Origin sites, and you will support hardware non-conformances and root cause analysis for these efforts.
You will partner with Manufacturing Engineers, Quality Engineers, Technicians, and other Propulsion Engineers from adjacent groups. You will exercise technical judgement to inform solutions for development and manufacturing, balancing risk and design in support of all Blue Origin programs. You will also develop leadership skills by mentoring, training, and collaborating with peers on various assignments.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- B.S. degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- 2+ years proven experience with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle component/assembly design, manufacturing, and test.
- Strong mechanical design skills, including initial sizing/analysis/calculations.
- Proficiency in CAD and large assembly model management and configuration (Creo Parametric and Windchill PLM preferred).
- Proficiency with GD&T implementation and analysis (ASME Y14.5).
- Working knowledge of aerospace materials, treatments and manufacturing.
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with design, production, and assembly in disciplines such as rocket engines, jet propulsion, aircraft, spacecraft, oil & gas, automotive, naval, nuclear, or heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of aerospace materials, treatments, and manufacturing methods.
- Continuous improvement process experience (DMAIC, PDSA, etc.).
- Experience with cryogenic fluids and oxygen compatibility.
- Experience with production quality management systems. Experience transitioning products from development to production.
Base pay range for WA applicants is $99,201.00 – $. Other site ranges may differ.
