Associate Mechanical Systems Engineer - Nuclear

Black & Veatch is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team executing the design of mechanical systems supporting Nuclear Power Generation. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Work collaboratively with various design engineering execution teams across the US and abroad
• Under general supervision, perform all aspects of mechanical system design engineering and analysis for assigned systems of responsibility
• Acquire knowledge of both Black & Veight and industry standards and implement them in project development
• Prepare moderately complex engineering deliverables, conduct research, and develop project design recommendations

• Continue to learn and remain current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies and procedures and apply them to assigned tasks as appropriate
• Continue developing and independently apply knowledge. Comply with B&V quality program relative to assigned tasks. Support continuous improvement and change management efforts
• Prepare a variety of increasingly complex engineering deliverables. Perform research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work. Prepare increasingly complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Understand and adhere to budget, schedule, and quality requirements. May recognize, define and resolve problems within assigned area. May provide direction and guidance to others
• Assign tasks to develop entry level professionals and interns. Coordinate with project leadership and other internal/external team members on less complex projects. Interact as needed with other disciplines on details of design work
• Work to understand external client’s interest and drivers through regular interaction and communication. Also focus on needs of internal clients and project leadership. May provide support to business development or pursuit activities
• Share current knowledge of latest technology and processes
• As skills develop, may assist with performance management process, recognition, and any corrective actions required. Actively mentor entry level professionals and interns

• Experience in instrument and/or service air systems
• Demineralized (DM) water supply and make up systems
• Service and potable water supply system
• Natural, hydrogen, and nitrogen gas supply system
• Closed cycle cooling water system
• High pressure / intermediate pressure / low / auxiliary steam system
• Feedwater and condensate systems
• CO2 supply system
• Calculations including pipe sizing, pipe thickness, pump sizing, control valve sizing, heat exchanger sizing, atmospheric tank sizing, etc.

• Air, gas, water & steam systems, typical systems which we are looking to perform design & engineering work

• Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program in the home country or the country in which the professional is practicing
• Minimum of 1 year related work experience
• All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search, etc.) in compliance with applicable laws and regulations

• Engineering‑in‑training (EIT)

• This position would require working in a typical office environment. The position may entail prolonged periods of sitting and computer use, and the professional would ideally be able to maintain focus and attention to detail throughout the workday. The position may also require physical tasks during site visits, including crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods of time
• Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments
