Position Title

Electrical & Mechanical Engineer – Brownfield Data Center Projects

Location

Dallas, San Francisco, Denver, Chicago, Phoenix, Seattle, Austin

Your Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail‑oriented Electrical & Mechanical Engineer to support the design, capacity planning, and energy optimization efforts across our global colocation data center portfolio. This role focuses on brownfield projects, including infrastructure upgrades, retrofits, and expansions of existing facilities, ensuring operational continuity and efficiency.

What You’ll Do
  • Assist in the design and deployment of AC and DC power distribution systems and HVAC upgrades, working with MEP design engineering firms.
  • Support integration of new systems with existing infrastructure in live data center environments.
  • Review electrical engineering construction packages and methods of procedures, coordinating with local operation and construction teams.
  • Review short‑circuit, coordination, and arc‑flash studies; provide recommendations to improve electrical safety, reliability, and compliance.
  • Participate in commissioning and turn‑up of new electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Review the existing mechanical and electrical capacity and brainstorm design options to densify and enhance capacity in the new design.
  • Ensure timely infrastructure scaling to meet operational and customer requirements.
  • Apply CFD modeling to evaluate airflow and thermal performance and recommend design enhancements that improve cooling capacity and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain documentation for commercial power, generator, UPS, and DC power systems.
  • Review, understand, and implement design engineering guidelines during project execution.
  • Support energy efficiency initiatives and track cost‑avoidance metrics.
  • Collect and validate data from energy‑related systems (e.g., BMS, EMS).
  • Collaborate with IT teams to enhance reporting tools and dashboards.
  • Work closely with space design engineers, operations leadership, product teams, and the asset management team to align infrastructure upgrades with business goals and customer requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate cross‑functional planning and execution of brownfield projects, ensuring seamless integration, timely delivery, and adherence to scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Develop and manage project plans, risk assessments, and stakeholder communications throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Travel to field sites for audits, inspections, and technical support.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (required).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data center or mission‑critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of AC/DC power systems, HVAC infrastructure, and energy management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SKM Power Tool (or similar), CFD tools, Microsoft Office Suite.
  • LEED Certification is a plus.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent experience in managing complex engineering projects is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, prioritize tasks, and drive results across cross‑functional teams.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, 24x7 operational environment.
Compensation

Compensation range: $125,000 – $140,000. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for this full‑time position, determined by role, level, and geographical location.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably electrical or mechanical).
  • 4‑7 years of significant experience in engineering roles within mission‑critical environments, ideally data centers.
  • Strong knowledge of Auto‑Computer Aided Design (ACAD).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Visio, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Explorer) or equivalents.
  • Experience in data center design, business‑critical infrastructure management, and data center operations.
  • Electrical, mechanical, network, or operational data center experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel and work onsite as required.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to standards/processes.
  • Proactive, flexible, self‑starter with deadline orientation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem‑solving ability, particularly in customer design issues.
  • Detail‑oriented, with strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Collaboration and effective cross‑team engagement.
  • Customer‑centric approach, commitment to customer outcomes.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and suggest process improvements.
