SCOPE OF POSITIONThe Field Engineer or Field Geologist will assume numerous other roles ranging from Field Engineer, Assistant Field Operator, Assistant Geophysicist, as the ever-changing demands of the workplace dictate. A successful candidate must have well-developed interpersonal, organizational and communication skills as well as strong problem-solving abilities. The position will sometimes involve significant amounts of travel. As part of a small growing team of employees, you will be relied on for your flexibility and versatility.
OVERALLGOALS FOR POSITION
- Gain experience and exposure as a contractor in the commercial development, environmental, construction and infrastructure industries
- Expand a diverse skill set through training, certifications and experience to become an asset to a larger team
- Complete complex site investigation programs throughout North America that we operate in.
- Assist in developing new business by providing a wide-ranging skillset.
Equipment Operation
- Familiarize with and operate High Resolution Site Characterization tools for environmental site investigations, SCPTu equipment, VST, MASW, numerous geophysical instruments and other in-situ testing equipment safely and productively.
- Become trained, company-certified and competent to operate numerous types of geotechnical site testing equipment and other pieces of equipment within our extensive fleet.
- Organize logistics for the mobilization and demobilization of equipment in hard-to-access environments.
- Perform routine maintenance on various pieces of equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Data Collection & Reporting
- Perform testing to collect data in a timely, orderly and accurate manner.
- Compile the collected data, sample logs, etc. daily and submit to the Engineer/Supervisor and/or client for further processing.
- Collect field notes and photos to guarantee the translation of data from the field to the office is as highly accurate as possible.
- Prepare and compile final field reports.
Health & Safety
- Identify with and respect Cone Tec’s safety culture, first and foremost.
- Ensure proper preparation and knowledge of all necessary safe operating procedures before beginning any job.
- Report any safety-related incidents, infractions, or near misses to the Project Manager and the HSE Officer, immediately.
- Know and follow the incident reporting protocol at all times.
Other General Responsibilities
- Communicate with the Supervisor or Project Manager as to any equipment problems or needs, as well as any field observations that might be of use.
- Perform other shop functions as required.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Applied Science, Geology, Geophysics or Related Fields is preferred
- Knowledgeable in a wide range of Cone Tec's testing types and mechanically inclined. Mechanics and problem-solving skills preferred
- Driver’s license and clean driving record. Experience driving pickup trucks or other large vehicles is preferred
- Occasional long days of 12+ hours, frequently 10+ hours
Experience Requirements
- Previous field experience would be an asset but not required.
