Join Blue Origin

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

We are looking for a proven leader with experience in flight vehicle fluid systems to coordinate design and development of the helium system for a launch vehicle upper stage. You will contribute to varying levels of the product development cycle, which may include conceptual design, requirements definition, component procurement, integration, test program management, product and mission support. You will use creative thinking and novel solutions to solve complex problems with high pressure, highly stressed hardware.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical and business process expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight.

Responsibilities:
  • Implement product definition, design, procurement, and production of environmental control and vent fluid subsystems and components
  • Conduct fluid and structural analyses to characterize component and system behavior
  • Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure your systems work together and meet requirements, resolving issues with calculated risk
  • Drive design for manufacturability. Implement upgrades for flight hardware identified through root cause analysis, manufacturing, testing, flight, and cost reduction opportunities
  • Build and manage project plans including cost, schedule and risk management to ensure timely delivery
  • Oversee component and system level testing, verification, and data analysis as part of development, qualification and hardware acceptance
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field
  • Proven experience with spacecraft or launch vehicle fluid system component design, analysis, or test
  • Solid understanding of propulsion and fluid components such as valves, quick disconnects, and fittings
  • Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes and quality control relative to tubes/piping and machined components
  • Design experience using 3D CAD (Creo preferred), 2D and 3D drawings per ASME Y14.5 GD&T along with detailed analysis reports using Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in an engineering field
  • Working knowledge of hydrogen and oxygen systems

Experience designing and analyzing fluid components (pilot valves, regulators, COPVs, etc.)
