Laser Safety Officer (LSO) | Radiation Safety | Global EHS | Hardware R&D
Immediate need for a talented Laser Safety Officer (LSO) | Radiation Safety | Global EHS | Hardware R&D. This is a 12+ Months Contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Seattle, WA (Onsite).
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the site Laser Safety Officer (LSO) supporting advanced R&D laboratories.
- Conduct laboratory inspections and laser safety compliance audits.
- Perform laser hazard calculations (MPE, NOHD, NHZ).
- Review laser-based experiments and engineering projects.
- Support optical safety evaluations for lasers, LEDs, and photonic systems.
- Perform laser power, spectral, and temporal measurements.
- Review and approve laser safety SOPs.
- Evaluate new hardware and equipment for laser safety compliance.
- Conduct X-ray leakage surveys and support radiation safety activities.
- Ensure compliance with ANSI Z136.1, IEC 60825, IEC 62471, FLPPS (21 CFR 1040.10/11), and CDPH regulations.
- Partner with engineering, research, product development, and EHS teams to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
Key Requirements and Technology
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience as a Laser Safety Officer (LSO).
- Strong knowledge of ANSI Z136.1.
- Experience with IEC 60825, IEC 62471, and FLPPS (21 CFR 1040.10/11).
- Hands-on experience performing MPE, NOHD, and NHZ laser hazard calculations.
- Experience conducting laser safety inspections, compliance audits, and hazard assessments.
- Familiarity with Radiation Safety and CDPH X-ray regulations.
- Experience in hardware engineering, consumer electronics, semiconductor, photonics, medical device, aerospace, or advanced R&D environments.
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Optical Sciences, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent LSO experience).
- Certified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO).
- Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) experience.
- FDA/CDRH reporting experience.
- Experience with FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis.
- RF/EMF safety knowledge is a plus
