IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Seattle, WA or the Portland/Vancouver area. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for a variety of building types while gaining hands‑on experience alongside experienced engineers and consultants.

In this role, you'll support project goals by working within project budgets, collaborating with cross‑functional teams, and contributing to coordinated building‑system design across hospitality, mixed‑use, government, and MEP markets. You'll gain real project experience while supporting high‑performance, energy‑efficient design aligned with MEP
2050 and AIA
2030.

• Assist with mechanical system design for projects in accordance with code and IMEG standards

• Assist with engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry

• Support equipment research and selection for commercially available systems

• Help maintain client relations, project design notebooks, and permanent record documentation

• Assist with coordination of design and schedule with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment supplier teams

• Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress

• Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check

• Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information

• Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract services agreement

• Work within the project’s monetary budget and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations

• Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required

• Strong interest in design consulting

• Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook

• Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software

• Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

• Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

• A broad integrated MEP team with strong emphasis on multifamily housing, mixed‑use, hospitality, transit, and civic and public work. The active results show recurring mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology scope, with additional support in energy modeling, commissioning, telecom, security, and architectural lighting on larger coordinated efforts.

• The team shows particular strength in urban residential developments, mixed‑use projects, transportation and access improvements, parks, school district work, and hospitality renovations. It handles complex, highly coordinated projects rather than narrow single‑discipline scopes.
