Blue Origin Operations Additive Manufacturing Specialist

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will exercise knowledge in the metal Additive Manufacturing workflow, such as design rules, support strategies as well as experience with 3D additive build software (e.g. Magics) to help support Blue Origin's launch vehicle programs. You will work with engineers and technicians to support additive manufacturing processing for various spaceflight systems.

You will assist in meeting a production schedule, designing build strategies, and evaluating new parts for the AM process. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare part build files using CAD software (Pro/E or Creo, Materialise Magics, 3matic)
  • Evaluate the build risk
  • Devise successful build strategy
  • Advise and document to RE's and AE's of build risk analysis in ITS
  • Advise and document to RE's and AE's of build recommended geometry changes needed to lessen the possible build failure.
  • Follow standardized file systems, traceability documentation
  • Meeting both quality and schedule expectations
  • Help to develop new and improved build parameters while not sacrificing the part quality.
  • Rapidly design support structures for printed components taking into account factors like heat input/warpage, surface finish, process efficiency, and final requirement conformance
  • Follow a standardized workflow that improves part quality, machine up-time and production throughput
  • Trouble shoot machine issues and offer advice per past machine experiences. Document finding in the AM Wiki.
  • Contact machine vendors when experiencing machine issues not yet seen before. Document findings in the AM Wiki.

  • Exposure to experience with one or more of the following software CAD software (Pro/E or Creo, Materialise Magics, 3matic)
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to rigorous schedule constraints
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired:
  • Training or experience working with metal additive manufacturing machines
  • 1-3 years of hands on build experience in an AM facility
  • Experience with 3-D CAD data – viewing, interrogation and or use for design
  • Experience with metallic 3D prep software such as EOSPrint and Materialise Magics
  • Experience in an R&D environment, preferably in aerospace, medical devices, or other engineered products
