Position: Tax Manager or Senior Manager - Talent Pipeline (hiring resumes April 15)

Overview

Our client service teams are currently in busy season and will begin active interviewing after April 15. We welcome early interest from qualified candidates and will reach out once active hiring resumes.

We are looking for a seasoned tax manager or a senior manager to join our business tax team. This practice focuses on closely held family groups and their individual owners. It is relationship heavy and never boring. If you think of yourself as a generalist that leans toward flow-through entities and understands how they flow through to a 1040, this could be a good fit.

arrangement

Our tax and audit teams may be spread across the country, but they work together seamlessly. Unlike many competitors, we have not had an RTO mandate. We would love for this position to be situated locally to the Portland or Seattle market, and we will prioritize those candidates. If you’re interested in moving to Portland, we will help cover the cost.

We believe in clear and reasonable expectations: full-time managers have a target of 1,375 charge hours and senior managers have a target of 1,350 charge hours (2,300 total hours annually), providing structure without burnout. During peak season, you can expect to log at least 50 charge hours per week, with higher weeks during deadlines. You won’t be doing it alone; we collaborate and support each other to finish strong together.

Time off to recharge is central to how we operate. In addition to 5 weeks of PTO, enjoy 14.5 paid holidays and paid leave options, including parental leave. Compensation and benefits include a salary range of $120K - $175K annually, varying DOE and level, with adjustments for areas with a higher cost of living than Portland, OR. We offer a 401(k) profit sharing plan with immediate vesting of employer contributions, 14.5 paid holidays, 5 weeks of PTO, ample paid leave including family leave, and an incentive plan for sales leads.

What

makes you a fit for this role
  • Active CPA License
  • 5-7+ years of recent experience in public accounting, including 2 in a manager/senior manager capacity, in a paperless environment, reviewing complex returns, researching complex tax issues, managing client relationships, supervising project teams, and accounts receivable collection
  • Experience reviewing (not just preparing) business tax returns (primarily forms 1120, 1120S; some 1065 & 1040), provisions, consolidated returns, multi-state returns, and ASC 740
  • Experience with Partnership basis adjustments
  • Due diligence experience on buy/sell sides of M&A activity; knowledge of taxable/nontaxable transactions, reorganizations and mergers, 382/383 issues, E&P, and liquidating distributions
  • Familiarity with foreign reporting (Form 5471, 5472, FBAR, 8865, 1042) is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to give and receive positive and constructive feedback
  • Organized, detail-oriented, problem-solver (critical thinker)
  • Collaborative, shares knowledge, and seeks knowledge of others as appropriate
  • Embraces new/changing technology; proficient with MS Office and tax software (preferably CCH Axcess & Engagement)
Compensation and benefits
  • Salary range is $120K - $175K annually, varying DOE and level. Compensation may be adjusted for areas with a higher cost of labor than Portland, OR
